SOMMERVILLE—-Two days after straining his left thumb while playing "Migration Blues," Readville-based folkie Pancho The Kid was placed on the 15-day Rock 'n Roll Disabled List. "I was up there singing about the plight of migrant farm workers, when all of a sudden, I felt this sharp thwang in my fretting hand," said the 27-year-old Pancho, who collapsed on the stage of the Burren and was unable to walk over to the bar under his own power. "I'm too young to be another Rock casualty." As Pancho was being carried out of the Burren on a stretcher, he flashed a V-sign, drawing a standing ovation from his fans. For now, Pancho (whose actual name is Chris Roth) plans to play it safe, and there is no word yet if he will appear at the 2008 Bonestock festival.
Before taking the stage at the Lizard, someone asked him what his name was..."Pancho The Kid," he shot back. His performance that night was raw and emotional, but the crowd loved it, and the name stuck.
Yo Pancho. Merry merry Christmas and feliz cumpleanos a ti. It was so fun to hang out and listen to you sing your jolly tunes. Hope to see you back in BK soon! Peace until then.
