Panic Dots began life under the name of NIPODCAST. NI, of course standing for Northern Ireland! Starting off with Richard Crothers and his friend James Lyttle, they aimed to present a proper selection of the best new music Ireland had to offer, with exclusives from the biggest names in the country including Duke Special and David Holmes.
After 12 episodes James continuted to get busier with his band MojoFURY and no longer had time to devote to podcasting. However Richard had the idea of inviting guests to co-host the show and so began asking bands around the country to join him on each podcast.
Summer 09 has seen a huge change for Panic Dots. Richard’s career took a jump, landing him neck-deep in music, PR companies, record labels, music journos and an all-round bunch of hipsters. This in turn led to a change in the podcast. With broader horizons, Panic Dots now outputs some of the most up-to-date music in the world. The new fortnightly format of two podcasts a month, one hosted by Richard W. Crothers and his love for the best in fresh, new dancing tunes, the other by Francis Jones. As the editor of Belfast’s AU Magazine, Francis’ knowlege of new music is cutting edge. Thanks to this new-found diversity, music on the show spreads over all genres, aiming to present listeners with songs they’ve never heard…until now.
