About the Director:
Pan Nalin came into the limelight with his debut feature film Samsara (2001). A film The Daily Variety called, “spectacular, spiritual and thrilling.” Debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival, Samsara traveled to over 60 film festivals winning 15 international awards along with being nominated for Best Film at the AFI International Film Festival. Samsara was released theatrically in over 50 countries except for the United States. This year, for the time, the Rubin Museum of Art in New York will exclusively screen the film from December 19th-30th.
Before making films, Nalin directed many documentaries for the BBC and Canal+. His first feature length documentary Ayurveda: Art of Being (2003) was released theatrically in the U.S. and all over the world. Nalin's recent feature film, Valley of Flowers (2006), was filmed in the remote and high altitude of the Himalayas and in Japan. It is currently being released in over 35 countries internationally. The US premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles in April 2007 resulted in the Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature.
Pan Nalin is recognized around the world for his different contributions to film. In 2006, Nalin was awarded Spain's prestigious Vida Sana Award for his contribution as a filmmaker to the ecology, thus an earth keeper. In early 2007, TMG (David Flint's Triangle Media Group UK) listed Pan Nalin as one of the Top 50 Achievers in Global Mainstream Media in the field of Film, Theater & Drama along with M.Night Shyamalan. Nalin also served as a Jury Member at the 2006 Marrakesh Film Festival alongside Jury Head Roman Polanski.
