We are a queer band from San Francisco. We've been around since the early 90s and made a bunch of records and done a bunch of tours. We have met some really cool people and some shitbirds. We've played with some amazing bands and some horrible ones too. We like music, both listening to and making... We have a website www.pansydivision.com (the audio page has tons of downloads). We are on Alternative Tentacles Records and they are nice folks.
This has been our most active year in 6 years! Our new album, titled That's So Gay, was released in late March 2009. It was be preceded by the 7" single "Average Men," which features a non-album B-side, a cover of Green Day's "Coming Clean." The documentary film about us, Pansy Division: Life In A Gay Rock Band, came out on DVD around the same time. Also, Jon's book about his Pansy Division experiences, called Deflowered: My Life in Pansy Division, was issued by Cleis Press on March 1, 2009.
It covers the history of the band, full of anecdotes and stories from over the years.
2009 has been a touring year for PD! Jon's book tour lasted from mid-March to the end of May, hitting 46 cities! The band did 11 east coast/midwest shows in June, and 9 west coast shows in September.
Including our new album, we have released 9 albums (including our Best Of, "The Essential Pansy Division") and a bunch of singles. We used to tour a lot, but jobs, school, and life in general prevent that now. Now we just play the occasional show, though short tours may occur once in a great while. Band members are Jon Ginoli, Chris Freeman, and Luis Illades, with Joel Reader, bassist for The Fatal Flaw and The Avengers (and formerly of Mr. T Experience) currently in the lead guitar role. He also occupies the token hetero role.
We've got two songs from our new album posted on our page, enjoy!
