I don’t want to bore you, so I’m going to make her very long life story kind of short.
These are the BASICS…
Her full name is PAOLA DUARTE, but prefers to just go by PAOLA as her artistic name. She was born in Bogota, Colombia. Music influenced her from the moment she was born. As it was also a part of her entire family. Her Grandfather was a recording artist in Colombia and had his own radio station. Her father, Jaime, was a jeweler, and was a part of a couple of his towns’ bands where he played guitar, drums, and other instruments. He and his band had the best parties in town. With the help of his brothers, they hand-made electric and acoustic guitars to help support their family. Her mother Azucena (Sussy), was also a guitar player, hair stylist, and a designer. Her oldest sister Sandra is a house wife, and mother of two beautiful, and talented boys. Carolina, her middle sister, is also a guitar player in her church, choreographer, and graphic designer. “It runs in the family.” PAOLA adds.
PAOLA’s fascination for music, melodies, modeling, dancing and entertainment began at a very early age of 5. At that age, she began attending modeling/acting academies in Colombia where she developed a stronger desire for the industry. She also participated in Colombia’s cultural dances, local events, talent shows, competitions, etc.
Her parents always saw a shining star in her. So with the limited sources her parents decided to give PAOLA and her sisters a better future, and soon moved to New Jersey, where she was brought up. When PAOLA was in the third grade, she was very influenced by Whitney Houston’s voice, the sound of Kenny G’s clarinet, she begged her parents to buy her an Alto Saxophone. She started playing her Alto Saxophone in her school’s band all the way to her 8th grade. At the same time she also participated in her schools choir all the way ‘till senior year. All throughout her middle school and high school career she managed school work, a part time job, dancing and singing lessons to keep her dream alive.
Even though PAOLA was a very outgoing child, knew everyone in her town, and had all the friends you could think of, growing up still wasn’t easy for her. She always felt like the outcast of the crowd. “I always felt like I was different not normal. My friends were more worried about having fun and going out, while I would love to just sit in my room, and listen to music. I always loved my journals, where I would spend most of my time writing my feelings down in a poetic way.” “It was never intentional, but for some reason, after writing my feelings, I would go back and read them, and they were all like poems, so I made them into lyrics. I would also search for casting calls on magazines, the Internet was my favorite, and I always kept myself busy with auditions.” “I remember this like it was yesterday… when I was 14, I found an acting school that caught my attention; but to attend, I first had to go through an “audition”… hahaha… the story of my life. I than told my parents about my interest, but even though they always supported me with my career, they were very skeptical about this school. Being that it was in New York City, they weren’t’ found of the fact that I would have to travel back and forth on my own and I was only 14 years old. “ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN” were my mother’s words”
Audition was on a Sunday morning. I woke up early, got ready, out the door I was…. when my mom stopped me and said “where do you think you’re going?’ “ I responded, “To my audition, I called and they are waiting for me, I am taking the train, and It’s ok if you and dad don’t want to go, but this is what I want to do for me, and if I don’t do it for me, no one else will.” “I remember like it was yesterday, the look in my mother’s face when she realized how serious I was about the path that was chosen for me, it surprised me when she told me to wait, that she would go to the audition with me.” “After that, I and my mom were inseparable. “She was always by my side, and went to every audition, show, and just everywhere with me.” “Her support has been unconditional ever since. I knew I had a partner for life.”

After all the auditions, record label showcases, talent shows, and competitions throughout her high school career Paola was discovered by Ahlilah Industry manager. At the age of 17, Paola became part of an R&B girl group called B.L.U.E where she learned a lot about the industry, from personal experiences, and from manager Ahlilah. “She was a great manager, and I thank her for all the knowledge she gave me” “I’m also glad I was part of this group, because I met a lot of wonderful people, especially Kera; until this day she is like a sister to me”
“B.L.U.E didn’t go far, but it left wonderful memories, life changing experiences, and knowledge.”
After the group, Paola decided that being a solo artist was more of her thing. Ever since then she has been working on different projects as a solo artist, and vocals for different bands. She has shared many stages with LOPEZ, singer; Wilmer Manga, lead singer of Los Internacionales del Vallenato. She also plays part of the lead vocals of “La Potencia Latina.” “Latin music is in my blood, it’s who I truly am” “Thank you Michael for giving me the opportunity to expand my horizon, and try a genre that was a new world to me, for giving part in your band and introducing me to Vallenato.”
