Paolo Giaro
The composer and guitarist Paolo Giaro acquired his rich artistic experience and musical knowledge during his journeys in various countries all over the world, meeting musicians of diverse origins and experimenting positive collaboration. In Brazil he performed on the guitar with the group Mercado Negro, in India with the sarod player Debiprasad Gosh and in Europe with George Aghedo, Sonny Taylor, El Hadji Niang, Fabrizio Ottaviucci, Krishna Bhatt, Federico Sanesi, Alfredo Trebbi, Stefano Scodanibbio, Pippo Ark D’Ambrosio, Quartetto di Sassofoni Adolphe Sax, Teresa Ranpazzi, Paul Dabiré, Massimo Manzi, Gabriella Bartolomei, etc.
His compositions are for solo instruments, quartets, ensembles, symphony orchestras, big bands, computers and synthesizers.
Besides his performances on stage, applying himself as an interpreter, arranger and composer, he realized CDs that are real cross cultural projects.
His recent productions are:
“E’ vento” (1995) with the participation among others of Markus Stockhausen, Irio de Paula, Massimo Manzi, George Aghedo;
“Dancing in the light of the full moon” (Amiata Records, 1996) entirely dedicated to India with Krishna Bhatt and Debiprasad Ghosh;
“Mysterious” (Harmony-Dona Ruy Project, 1996) dedicated to Djavan, Joyce and C. Buarque;
A Suite “Thrilling” (1998) for the harp quartet “Dalma Quartet” on the occasion of the European Harp Symposium.
The album “Urbino” (Amiata Records, 1998) aroused great interest among the international record companies (United States, Far East and Australia) and deserved the praise of musicians like Markus Stockhausen, Ralph Towner, Trilok Gurtu, Gabriella Bartolomei. In this work, which is refined and playful at the same time, Paolo Giaro matches diverse sounds and creates a music defined by him as syncretic.
The project “Variation africane” (1999-2000) is due to his collaboration with the Dabiré brothers, Paul and Gabin, from Burkina Faso and it is dedicated to the research of primordial sounds of Black Africa. Here Paolo Giaro realizes a personal technique, where the guitar becomes percussion, producing sounds beyond all guitar schemes.
In 2002 Giaro presents a CD called “I vu di” (Vel Net Record), a work of refined atmosphere, in which moments of deepness are followed by moments of pure energy of rhythm.
His compositions accompanied several theatre plays and ballets and are the soundtracks of short films.
From 1991 to 1997 Giaro was the director of a Music Festival called “E’ vento suono”, where musicians from all over the world had the opportunity to meet and perform on the same stage.
His compositions are broadcasted on international radios arousing great interest.
The multimedia project “Lingue, dialetti dell’anima” (2001-2003) realized together with the sculptor Paolo Icaro, the saxophone player Carlo Colocci and the singer Valeria Visconti has been represented on stage as a performing concert.
The CD “Respiro d’Europa” is mostly inspired by European music traditions with compositions for piano, saxophone quartet and symphony orchestra, except two pieces matching sound sampling, percussion and lyrical voice.
At present he’s cooperating with “Cantilena Music”, the australian publishing house.

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals,featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
