*** This is the official myspace page for funk'n'groove wizard, Papa Josh. Papa Josh is a seasoned funk, jazz and r&b guitarist with a powerful voice and an instinct for making music feel good. Josh's talent as a musician is clearly displayed in his solo project as he lays down nasty guitar riffs, funky bass lines, drums beats, and vocals that leave audiences dancing with their mouths wide open. Papa Josh's only mission is to keep the dance floor shaking. His tasteful solos and guitar explorations melt into the groove as people marvel at the funk band with just one man. The sound is all Josh and it all happens live, NO quantization, it is a living vibration transcended through Papa Josh to the audience in a one of a kind, sweaty, dance inspired, turn you on and keep you moving show. It is the flame that keeps burning when the world turns cold.
*** In the time since Papa Josh started his solo loop show, he has performed at the Pemberton Festival, the Whistler Music Festival, Bonfire Music Festival, Birken Summer Fest and brought the funk through Vancouver, Whistler, the Sunshine Coast, Nelson, Canmore, AB, and now the back to the USA. This is the next saga in the evolution of a musician who previously performed with Arturo Sandoval, Garaj Mahal, Jeff Sipe (Aquarium Resuce Unit, Leftover Salmon), Bryan Jordan (Karl Denson), Frank Wess, Alonzo "Pookie" Johnson, John Staton (Karl Denson), Fareed Haque, and Dan Nimmer (Wynton Marsalis) and has opened for Spearhead, Karl Denson, Robert Walter, The Isley Brothers, Liquid Soul, Oteil Burbridge, George Porter and more while touring the US and Canada with San Francisco's progressive funk-rock unit, Global Funk.
