One time for the Rewind!!!!
This famous MC/ DJ Phrase was created in Jamaica by the emcee/ toasters at the dub sound systems. When the DJ would drop a new dub and the vibe was tight and the timing right the crowd would explode and demand to have the track "rewound" or spun back on the turntable to the beginning of the track so the crowd could experience it all over again. This phrase- the Rewind! has been popularized and branded in the Jungle/ Drum and Bass scenes of the UK and US underground, and now is commonly heard in Hip Hop as well. When the crowd waves their hands in the air in a circular motion, flashes their lighters and screams Rewind! The DJ knows he just dropped serious sh*t.
Today's Lesson involves a Rewind! on another- deeper level, so let's continue on with our Reggae/ Hip Hop History Lesson, by reading the bio of the eclectic and eccentric Papa Lova. Poised for global success as reggae / hip hop singer, songwriter and entertainer, Papa Lova is truly a clever lyricist - with expertise in matters pertaining to the “ladies.” As a talented singer, Papa Lova’s deep, sultry voice touches the soul as he expressively combines the dancehall DJing with singing to form a unique musical fusion called SingJing. He has been working steadfastly to create his official debut album. Entitled, “Mr. Worki Worki,” the album is slated to be released in late 2009.
The “Mr. Worki Worki” album features 16 eclectic and hard-hitting songs, stemming from the reggae, roots/culture, dancehall, hip hop, and rap music genres. Papa Lova single-handedly wrote all of the songs on the album, in his songs, Papa Lova covers topics ranging from life’s struggles, and injustices, to love, relationships, both good & bad.
PAPA LOVA’S Biography:
With a name like “Papa Lova,” men stand at attention and ladies observe in anticipation. Born on August 10 in Baileyston, Jamaica, this Leo knows how to take charge of his “jungle,” musically and in other instances – as the proclaimed “girls dem Piña Colada on the beach in Jamaica.” Papa Lova’s country-based upbringing, under the loving care of his grandmother, taught him a sense of self, strength and sensitivity – and helped to form the foundation of his core being. This, in turn, forged Papa Lova’s sound principles of diligence, perseverance and creativity. Combined, these characteristics attribute much to Papa Lova’s emergence as a warm, considerate and caring individual.
Papa Lova’s music is not only about entertaining the ladies, but also serves as the voice of people who are otherwise afraid to speak out against injustices. Whether it involves women, ghetto youths or, “how Babylon is treating the people dem,” Papa Lova creatively covers it all in the Mr. Worki Worki album.
