You'll note the change to my profile name, 'SYLVESTRINGS'. This is the name of the duo formed with my son, Matthew Sylvest. We'd love to come and perform at your gathering, our mix of folk music old and new, and original songs we've composed.
'DON'T FEED THE BEARS' features local musicians; Patrick is on Guitar, Dobro, and Lead Vocals, Matthew Sylvest plays Bass and sings backup, Matthew Dunn of 'Snapper and the Fishsticks' plays drums and sings backup, John Babin played Fiddle and Dr. Will Robichaux provided the Cajun French commentary at the end of the track. Producing, Mixing, and Mastering was done by Shannon Atkinson of 'In Situ' fame. All recording was completed at Easy Street Music, BMI in Thibodaux, LA.
'A LITTLE LESS LOUISIANA' featured some of Nashville's finest session players in Rob Ickes of Blue Highway on Dobro and Acoustic Slide guitars and Andy Leftwich of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder on Fiddle and Mandolin. Harry Robinson, formerly the band leader for Lee Greenwood and Banjoist of Dolly Parton masterfully handled the Production of the CD. Thank you Harry!!! It was mixed and mastered in David Martin's Cuppa Joe Records in Nashville, TN.

Too many to list......all music that you listen to influences you in some way when you create 'your' sound.
I loved the folk/acoustic sound of the early Seventies. Those artists have influenced my music the most by far.
Currently, I really enjoy the new bluegrass/folk/acoustic sound that is sweeping the independent music scene. This movement truly gives a lover of songs some hope that all is not lost to commercial interest and that there are some artists writing sincerely from the heart.
I was born in Port Sulphur where we lived until I was 4. I spent my schoolyears in Gramercy, LA on the Mighty Mississippi where I began my music career playing guitar and singing in the choir at Mass and at school and anywhere else I could find to play. My parents and a few siblings and their children still live there. I'm settled on Bayou Lafourche where I've raised my family.
I've been writing songs ever since I began to play the guitar at age 14. I've performed in open mic's all over and in Coffee Shops for many years. Coffee Shop patrons tend to be the music listening type which is probably why singer songwriters like myself gravitate toward such venues. I've played with several bands over the years, preferring the acoustic variety the most; Folklure, from Lafayette and The Moss Pickers of Thibodaux most recently.
On a Sunday morning, you may find me singing and playing mandolin or dobro with the St. Joseph Sacred Folk Choir at 11:30 AM Mass, or at Christ the Redeemer Church at 4PM Saturday.
I love great folk music, new and old. There's nothing better than a well sung story to tug at the heartstrings or tickle the funny bone of an audience.
The title song of my New CD, 'A Little Less Louisiana', laments the tragedy of our vanishing Louisiana Coastline. It is my most sincere hope that this CD can bring this problem into the consciousness of as many people as possible.
The CD features Rob Ickes on Resonator and acoustic slide guitars and Andy Leftwich on Mandolin and Fiddle. If you don't know these guys, I suggest you look them up and get ahold of some of their music with Blue Highway and Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. They are simply the best!
REVIEW: Mike Vinning, Houma Courier Newspaper writes; What a pleasantly alluring CD. It's like taking everything you've ever loved about growing up in south Louisiana - combined with everything your grandparents told you about - and dividing it up equally among 12 original songs, and putting them all on one CD called "A Little Less Louisiana."

A Little Less Louisiana is really touching. Thanks for helping spread the word about our coastal crisis!
After Katrina, (and recently reminded by Gustav and Ike) we know that Louisiana's coastal crisis means more than the loss of some redfish or blue crabs - it means the difference between a sustainable New Orleans and the next Atlantis - take a moment to check out our profile to act now, & please keep spreading the word!
Oh, and we're urging McCain and Obama to support rebuilding our coastal lines of defense - our wetlands, our cypress swamps and our barrier islands - check it out and ask the candidates to step up!

Wow! I heard them play a request on the Bluegrass Highway podcast for 'Patrick Sylvester of Thibidoux, LA' and thought, 'Hey, I know who that is!!' - too funny, small world.
Thank you for sharing/introducing me to your wonderful music on My Space and adding me to your list. God bless all you good folks in Louisiana and please know you'll be in our prayers during this storm.
