GEORGE MITCHELL:
Studied with masters Dave Holland, Ron Carter and Don Thompson. Beside being a founding member of Papasoff’s ensemble, He is presently touring with the Cindy Blackman Band. He has also worked for Joe Henderson, Slide Hampton, Oliver Jones, Sonny Greenwich and Chris Potter . His playing is totally original and beautifully connected to the universe.
MARTIN AUGUSTE:
Is a colorful percussionist working on numerous new grooves for today’s urban landscape. Incorporating elements from the Balkans, he is becoming a master of odd time signatures. His playing can also be heard with Kaba Horo, the Jay Atwill Band, Coral Egan and Jean Beaudet.
JOCELYN TELLIER:
The band’s newest member, Jocelyn Tellier has added his atmospheric guitar work to the Papasoff Trio for the past two years. He has played with everybody in Quebec’s thriving music scene, to name a few: Carl Bastien’s Stone County Players, the Yannick Rieu Project and the Large Ensemble with Rieu and Dan Thouin.
Musician, composer, producer, and actor, Charles Papasoff is a multi-facetted artist.
Best known in the jazz community as a baritone saxophonist, he has made his mark in recent years with his own band, The Papasoff Quartet, and has collaborated with numerous artists. He also plays the full range of saxophones, clarinets and flutes, as well as piano, guitar and bass.
His discography ranges from records with his own band such as "Painless" (1997) on his own label Nisapa to Coral Egan's "My Favorite Distraction" (2004) as an arranger/ producer for Justin Time Records for which he received Quebec’s Félix award for record producer of the year (2004).
In recent years, Charles Papasoff has been very active as a composer. He has written scores for film, as the feature "La lune viendra d’elle même" (2004) by Canadian director Marie-Jan Seille (nominated for a Genie for best musical score) and "Louise" (2004), a made for TV movie by French director Jacques Renard. Awed by the modern dance world, he has composed the score for "Plus seul qu’en solo" by French choreographer Dominique Porte (2004) and "L’homme filigrane" by French choreographer Myriam Naisy.(2000). He has also scored a modern version of the classic "Tristan Iseult" for the Ballet Jazz de Montreal (1996),
In 1998, Papasoff brought a project entitled "Catharsis" to life. This ambitious multidisciplinary work uniting words and music and performed by 16 actors and musicians on stage is now in its third version. "Catharsis I" (1999) also became the subject of a Bravo/Art Tv special while "Catharsis II" (2001) was recorded and released on Nisapa Records.
Through the label Nisapa, he has produced emerging artist such as Coral Egan’s "the path of least resistance" (2002), the Jefferson Grant Quintet’s "As One" (2002) and "JGQ" (1999) and contemporary music artist collective's self titled CD "TUYO" (2000) as well as his own projects.
As an actor, a selective view of his on screen collaborations include Michael Ironside in The Last Chapter (2003), Charlotte Gainsbourg in The Intruder(1999) and Jessica Paré and Seth Myers in See This Movie (2004).
Papasoff has just completed production of Coral Egan's third CD entitled "Magnify" (2007) and is currently writing music for film as well as arranging woodwinds for Brazilian singer, Bïa. Life is good.
