We were all birthed from mothers who at one time procreated with men. At young adolescent ages, we separately took up musical instrumentations in order to kill time between pre-pubescent masturbations and episodes of transformers. We learned to communicate in mature fashions and after collegiate graduations we met under uncomfortable situations. We compiled an octet of songs from witch we drew inspirations from a long list of music groups. We awarded ourselves a name that we all had a fondness for.

Paperbombs are one of a growing number of bands from Staten Island who play heavy rock music without making the same old mistakes. Instead of giving into the cliche lyrics of current emo and hardcore, self-indulgent solos, and melodramatic theatrics, this quartet rolls out energetic songs that are unpretentious and muscular, hearkening back to influences like Cursive and Fugazi while blazing there own path. "The Cue" is an excellent example of the band's frenetic style, with a double guitar attack giving way to a pensive, groove-ridden breakdown, and then a patient, layered build. "Echo Vega," with it's 5/4 time signature and tearing, opposing riffs playing foil to a slow, swinging verse, is another keeper. The bands driving rhythms--courtesy of bass player Mike Nunes and drummer Tom Connors often lock into the catchy but complex hooks of guitarists Jay Connors and Mike Cibelli. Cibelli, whose vocals run the gamut from astronomical to personal, delivers melodic lines that sneak into your head. A solid band looking to make their mark beyond the growing Staten Island scene who has the goods to make it happen.
You guys deserved to be on the main stage. No offense, but they gave you a slap to the face by putting you on the stage farthest away in the middle of nowhere.
Oh well, next year, when DAPS take over Rock the Harbor(hopefully), we'll be sure to give you a headlining slot.
Gentlemen, Today I entered the 21st century when I had high speed internet hooked up in my home and because of that I was able to listen to the songs on this myspace page.
A couple of notes if I may: 1. I really dig the structure and guitar parts. 2. Do all myspace songs sound so terrible? 3. Cibell and/or nunez needs to start yelling on top of everything. 4. Call Pete for number 3, I think he's bored hanging out with old people 5. send me a copy of that cd
Great melodic tunes, great playing and singing! Looking forward to your set at Rock The Harbor. Break a leg. Thanks for the add and don't be a stranger.
