Producer, songwriter and DJ Joseph Malik has a career going back to the late 80s working with labels Mo'Wax, Hospital, Compost, Fluid Ounce, Sony, K7, Tru Thoughts, 20/20 Vision, Firecracker, Oh Eye, Yush, RCA and Altered Vibes. after many years djing round the world and making music from a black perspective
Joseph Malik took a new direction, drawing inspiration from people like Talking Heads, Lou Reed, Ian Dury, Bill Hicks and Simon sickboy Williamson, Agent Provocateur. jarvis cocker 'the fall. eduardo paolozzi 'irvine welsh 'and the anti pop of iggy pop
And so he formed a nu wave post punk project, Paper Cut Rock with Joseph on lead vocals, friend and co-producer Reachout on vocals and Rosco Taylor miss ingird le feme fatale with producer david donnelly and steven christie miss vikie sellotape and little kitten anneka along with special guests to make a album with no record company cash or bullshit
Keeping a low profile in their native Leith in Edinburgh, the paper cut rock have been rehearsing and recording their debut album, playing cdr demos while djing and testing the audience reaction, which has proven to be extremely nasty
the point of the project is to make a record for the love of making and playing music not to be famous for fuck all or to be on tv
Current projects in production - Paper Cut rock LP (When Culture Turns Nasty),
Almost Tomorrow is the third full length collaboration album from Section 27 Netlabel founders Tam Ferrans and Andrew Paterson, under their Nonima & theAudiologist guise. This time around the sound is more melodic, and has a definite feeling of a complete and more mature sound than heard on the previous LP's "Dystopian Battle Hymns" and "Ceremony After Amputation". If you are familiar with their individual projects you may even be in for a slight surprise, as the tracks are not as beat driven like before, but are more atmospheric and sound, well... "bigger". In its 75 minutes, Almost Tomorrow takes you on a trip from the digital rain-soaked cavernous scraping in "Thoughtograph", the ethereal beat jittering of "The Colour of Rain", intercepted transmissions from unknown places in "Com-Intercept", "Ganzfeld"s huge yet strangely insect-like beats until everything you knew comes crashing around you in "Almost Tomorrow". Burning pianos, glitched out soundscapes and intricately programmed beatplay, this may well be their best work to date. Consider it the soundtrack to a rainy overcast day, but with just that glimmer of sunshine peeking from the clouds. "Almost Tomorrow" wears its heart on its sleeve.
