About me: As a group Anne Hendrick (Wexford), Maire O’Mahony (Cork), Lucy Sheridan (Dublin) and Fiona Chambers (Belfast) began to work collaboratively in 2004. Since graduating from painting at NCAD in June 2006 they have stayed in regular correspondence, supporting and influencing each others practices using postcard art and the internet to communicate and discuss each others work. This exhibition in One Gallery concentrates upon this aspect of their relationship. Working individually, the artists have undertaken to create a series of collaborative drawings by post, each contributing in turn to the artwork to create a ‘finished’ piece.
Each artist has a very distinctive and individual practice employing a variety of different media, comfortably moving across the fields of film, photography, drawing, painting and installation. However, they are drawn together by a similar aesthethic and shared interests. Through these very different processes they make meaning that has a more subtle similarity than immediately apparent. There is an overriding common sense of energy, play and simplicity, in constant tension with a dark undercurrent.
'Folds' opens on Friday 13th June 2008 from 7-9
