Parachute Penguin is a four-piece, Edmonton-based band that defines the modern rock music genre. Their sound has been compared to such powerful acts as U2, The Killers, and Muse, but without sounding derivative. The subtle, dark musical underpinnings are contrasted with inspiring lyrics and dance-rock rhythms that are sure to get your feet moving.
Capturing you with their stage-presence and solid live performance, Parachute Penguin appeals to the concert goers’ eyes and ears. Foundational bass work and intricate, high-energy drumming scaffold the wide-ranging, sultry vocals and beaming, yet unassuming, guitar riffs. Tight harmonies are a nice finishing touch to the band’s impressive toolkit.
Displaying an unrelenting commitment to perfecting their live show, Parachute Penguin always provides fans with something new and innovative at each performance. Already the band has shared the stage with top Canadian bands such as, Ill Scarlet and The Midway State, and it is only a matter of time before Parachute Penguin explodes onto the Canadian music scene.
Formed in September of 2007, Parachute Penguin is: Steven Virga singing lead vocals, Matt Kokotilo on guitar and vocals, Jon Kokotilo on bass, and James Kokotilo on drums. The band has just released their newest EP, ‘All Through the Panic’ in March, 2009, which embodies a more mature, creative sound than their 2008 ‘self-titled’ EP. However, both disks continue to receive much critical praise. Recording of their highly anticipated full-length CD is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2010.
