You can find it in our Blog… here we go: .. Since ..1968.. Paradiso has been situated in the building that in 1879 was built by the architect Gerlof Bartholomeus Salm. A year before, the former protestant church was squatted by a group of hippies. The squatters were removed immediately, but after the necessary negotiations, local authorities agreed that the building could be used for the time being. The building was given the name Paradiso and from the opening night the place was packed. .. In the beginning, happening-like events were organised: lots of incense, films, liquid slides, acts with naked girls under a piece of plastic and a speakers corner. Bit by bit Paradiso turned into a ..stage for pop music.. where famous national and international bands were playing and rock concerts were alternated with a filmshow once a week and a weekly jazznight. Paradiso had become an ..internationally known venue.. but the above mentioned atmosphere lingered on until in 1977 a new age was dawning; Punk and New Wave climbed the stages and would leave their marks upon Paradiso for a long time. However ..in the 80’s Paradiso tended towards a program 7 days a week for as diverse an audience as possible... .. From 1990 production-wise Paradiso was improved and nowadays it is ..a cultural centre where both during the day and at night lots of different events take place... The core of the program still is pop music and that is what has created Paradiso’s fame worldwide. Other activities are being arranged around the ‘popcore’ in such a way that there will always be some kind of connection with popculture. The aim is a programme of high quality which ..constantly nourishes the critical taste of the audience... ..
