   About parhelion

Music is Order.
Out of the void
Out of chaos
the creative spirit
moving over the face
of the waters.
Out of the random a rule
Out of darkness a light
Out of multitude and muchness
integrity,
the one entire whole and holy.
- Nick Jones

Parhelion is the result of many hours spent in the recording studio experimenting with various musical concepts. The inspiration for this endeavor was indirectly sparked by an idea I was developing with my band Tunturia (tunturia) and which has since morphed into this side-project. My goal is the musical exploration of solipsism syndrome, specifically dealing with how environment is conducive to state of mind. As a theory solipsism states that everything perceived is in an individual's imagination and that there is no reality outside of one's own mind. Environment plays a key role in affecting 'state of mind' and as my interest with the arctic grew I became more and more interested in investigating the parallel between that environment and individual perception with reference to such things as isolation, void and space. On a less philosophical level these compositions are simply works inspired by the grandeur and harsh beauty of arctic terrain. There is something both dreadful and magnificent about the vast north and these works are but an attempt at capturing that feeling of awe and wonder. My goal is to complete an entire album on this theme. As this is an ongoing side-project I don’t know when I will finish all of the intended work, but the inspiration is there so it will likely only be a matter of time.

"I am a religious person...and by 'religion' I mean re-ligio, the re-tying of a bond...restoring the legato of life. Life divides man into many pieces...There is no weightier occupation than the recomposition of spiritual integrity through the composition of music." - Sofia Gubaidulina

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"...hidden behind the art of connecting two or three notes lies a cosmic mystery." - Arvo Pärt

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Art is implicit in nature, and whoever can extract it has it.” - Albrecht Dürer

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

it [is] much better to insist on the genuine forms of nature, for simplicty is the greatest adornment of art." - Albrecht Dürer

Hey man, thanks many for the kind words! You can download that track un-severed on myspace. com/sonorouscircle if you want. A shitty MP3, yes... but I'll be sure to send you a CD full of glorious waves when I have such to offer!!

I'm too keen to get some of your tracks also - PLEASE inform me as to how I may go about doing so, in order that I can bathe in their splendour without the hassles of my ridiculously bad internet connection...

Thanks again! Hope you're well.
Thomas.

My friend, I hope you're not exhausted of live music after NXNE, because I'd like to personally invite you for a drink and a smile at our musical party this Thursday, June 19th at Sneaky Dee's. We'll be accompanied by a couple of very energetic & powerful bands (The Isosceles Project & ADA) that will make for an especially high-caliber soirée.

If you're curious about details or want to invite others, here's the event listing (I assure you this link is not hazardous):

Thank you immensely. You're a good person; please persist in your goodness.

Peace, respect & good karma.

Thankyou.
I found you randomly from branching from ecka liena's myspace, I'm currently loving parhelic triangle by autechre and your name stood out because of that. Loving your industrially epic sound. It makes for very uneasy listening.

May 14 2008 10:46 PM

Hey, brother, thanks a tonne for the encouragement and positivity. I felt a very unique sensation in listening to "Atmospheric Refraction" and "Midnight Sun"...it was some sort of immobile anxiety, as the tone of the pieces is dark, somewhat tense & suspicious, but the delivery is so soothing & hypnotic. What an achievement, to give me this conflict within my body...

To answer your question...yes, we do have a performance coming up in June (19th) at Sneaky Dee's, with some very engaging performers and kind friends of ours in The Isosceles Project & ADA. If you decide to attend, please feel welcome to be friendly with us. We try to be nice people; hopefully we succeed more often than we fail.

Regardless, immense gratitude for having spent time with our music. We value that immensely.
Peace & good karma.

Hey Thanks SO MUCH for that comment on Disgusted Foundations Part 1. I was grateful to have the help of my great from Jason "Evil" Covelli found in my top friends. He supplied the spoken word that you heard then I did the background music to it. That piece will be on an release in months to come so I'll keep you informed on any updates about it.

I like to expand my sound as much as i can so i have a little bit of something everyone can enjoy. Thanks for noticing that as well.

All the best
