 Very few are the rock connoisseurs who don’t know their name in France : maybe because they hung up with the Libertines, or maybe because they launched a whole new rock scene in Paris in spring 2004. They went back and forth between Doherty and Barât, offered the Naast their first opening opportunity, but most of all the Parisians have always known how to play and write classy and precise songs, a rare thing these days. Mainly influenced by the 70s NY punk scene and the Stooges (and not the Libertines, as it is commonly believed), they represented hope for anyone who craved a breath of fresh air in 2004 and 2005, Carl Barât said they were his new favourite band. They toured France, England, Germany, the US and of course roamed the Parisian’s underground clubs to find their true identity. And a definite line-up : besides Stevan, excellent singer and songwriter, there is now Xavier, former drummer, now lead guitarist, Clément on the drums and Nico on the bass. And it’s never been better. Since then, the Parisians undoubtedly took it up a notch with songs more elegant than ever for which they fight on stage as if their lives depended on it. After a great first EP « Alesia », their upcoming album (entirely in English) recorded with Bonus Tracks and Yarol Poupaud, clearly and easily reflects their talent and creativity. It’s time for them to take back their throne as the Kings of the Parisian scene. -----------------------------------------------------------
En France, rares sont les amateurs de rock qui ne les connaissent pas au moins
de nom : parce qu’ils ont fréquenté les Libertines, parce qu’ils ont, on le sait, lancé toute une nouvelle scène parisienne au printemps 2004. Ils ont tenu la chandelle à
Doherty et Barât, ont offert leur premier concert aux Naast, mais surtout,
dès le début, les Parisians savaient jouer et écrire des chansons d’une classe
et d’une précision rares. Influencés par le punk new-yorkais et les Stooges
(plus que par les Libertines), ils suscitaient déjà les plus grands espoirs en
2004 et 2005, à Paris et ailleurs : Carl Barât a dit d’eux qu’ils étaient son groupe
préféré, ils ont tourné en France, en Angleterre, en Allemagne, et bien sûr, écumé
les clubs parisiens le temps de trouver leurs marques.
Et un line up définitif : aux côtés de Stevan, excellent chanteur et auteur de la
plupart des chansons, on trouve désormais Xavier, ex-batteur, à la guitare,
Clément à la batterie, Nico à la basse. Et le résultat est meilleur que jamais.
Depuis quelques mois, les Parisians jouent indiscutablement dans la catégorie
au-dessus : leurs compositions ont encore gagné en élégance, et sur scène,
ils les défendent avec une intensité irréprochable. Après le très réussi «Alésia E.P.»,
l’album à venir chez Bonus Tracks, tout en anglais, et nettement à la hauteur des
productions françaises et anglosaxonnes contemporaines, confirme sans peine
leur inventivité et leur talent.
C’est le moment de retrouver leur place de rois de la scène parisienne.
