About our award winning documentary When Broomsticks Were king :
Born on the streets of Brooklyn, New York the game of Stickball became an Urban right of passage for those neighborhood kids looking for a way to emulate the legendary Baseball players of their time.Instead of Ebbetts Field, Lousville Sluggers, and Pinstripes, On the streets of Brooklyn all you needed was a Broomstick, a rubber ball, and a couple of sewer caps. The local rivalries sometimes became intense when rival teams from different streets competed in unofficial leagues. The prize of winning the local stickball championship did not include trophies or champagne celebrations, but merely the precious pride of neighborhood bragging rights. In the age of the of a technological revolution this documentary style comedy is a tribute to Brooklyn stickball and the hero’s who played the game, It tells a story about a simpler time, not so long ago, on the streets of Brooklyn... .
In Brooklyn, the word on the street is sometimes more powerful than the truth itself. In a world where crime and corruption feeds the greed and power of the underground, sometimes trouble is waiting just around the corner.
Looking for inspiration, Henry (Frederick Silo Gunsch), a frustrated writer fired from his dead end job, follows Jimmy (Edward Heegan) and his crew Frank (Dennis Maddocks Jr.) and Sal (William Cantera) on an urban adventure that ends up in a game of cat and mouse with a mysterious vigilante.
Based on the screenplay by writer/director Jason Cusato and Director of Photography Asa Davis, York Street will take you on a unique urban adventure through the Streets of Brooklyn and into the mind of an inquiring storyteller.
As Jimmy and the boys embark on their biggest score yet, the boss of the local underground crime world Sonny (Fred Bernard) is hot on their tail. With his heavyweight team of old school wise guys Tony and Pete (Raymond Francis Goffio and Frank Peretti), Sonny tries to keep Jimmy and his boys in line, and on the fast track to earning quick cash.
Sonny tries to unravel Jimmy’s next score with the help of a mutual friend/informant, who is forced into coercion due to an outstanding gambling debt, and the impending threats of a rival organization. Embark on a Journey shot exclusively on the streets of Brooklyn; down the cobble stoned streets of downtown, and through the tunnels of the NYC Subway system. Sweat through a foot pursuit through back alleys, and watch shady deals go down in local pubs. Join a car chase under the Elevated trains of McDonald Avenue and arrive on the shores of Coney Island. Park Slope Films latest feature York Street puts a new spin on an old story while the raw elements of the Brooklyn Streets provide a backdrop, as well as an important character that helps to chronicle this entangled plotline.
..Some people search their entire lives for there inspiration, but sometimes inspiration finds you."

About me: A small company launched in 1999, Park Slope Films began with a staff of two, and has since expanded to become a fully staffed production company. Dedicated to creating films that remain true to the independent spirit, we seek to produce original works of all genres generated from both in-house and outside sources. In an effort to preserve the art of film, we are keenly interested in developing projects centered upon the creation of a dialogue with the audience. To this end, we collaborate with our community and its local artists in order to produce films that reflect an authentic New York experience...
