Between us we have scored hundreds of feature films, adverts, television and radio programs as well as contemporary art and corporate installations... PARKDALIAN SOUND SPACE is a professional recording facility in the West End of downtown Toronto. Located in the burrow of Parkdale, which is home to Toronto's most prolific arts and leisure expansion, we are minutes from affordably priced boutique hotels, restaurants, clubs, bars, shops and galleries. Being in a music and arts epicentre amongst so many prolific bands and artists is a loved benefit of our location. .. PDS officially opened it's doors on Jan 1, 2008, when producer Alphonse Alixander Lanza III made the facility available to other recording artists and producer/engineers. Services quickly advanced as the gear list and functions of the studio rapidly expanded. Things are always evolving while maintaining stability, and we are constantly on the hunt for new sounds, equipment, instruments and usability. .. Though we don't advertise to the public, our schedule has been beautifully busy and productive due to great word of mouth and referrals... Our many projects this year have taken us everywhere from feature film scoring to complete album recording and mixing, single cutting, remixing, overdubbing, transfers, spontaneous musical creation and musician match-making!.. We are happy and thankful to all who have helped make 2009 so great, the vibe is infectious in here and we are looking forward to seeing some smiling faces, both old and new, in 2010... Although space sacrifices must be made to run an artist friendly facility in the heart of TO's vibrant Queen West, no compromise is made in our sound, equipment and knowhow, and the recording rooms, while suited to off the floor bands of 4-6 members, are more than ample and are treated for maximum warmth and depth... At the heart of the studio is the Otari Series 54 64 input console. Fully motor automated, patchable and recapped, this desk features some of the highest headroom, possible routing options and superb quality gain staging/bussing of any console design, while the API influenced channel EQs lazer trim and fatten audio with warmth, clarity, depth and precision. The on board transformerless mic pres are also great for clean, open sound. Plasma PPM or VU style metering for every channel. .. Recording is done to an Otari MTR 90 MKII with remote, Logic or ProTools MP (with 24i/o + producer's toolkit). DA/AD Conversion is Metric Halo 2882 (24i/o). Sync is available between all formats, tape and instrument machines, and the DAW can also vari-speed with the 2". .. Mixing is recorded into the DAW, into an Otari 4 track 1/2", onto an Alesis Masterlink or any combination of the above. .. Monitoring is done through Focal Twin 6, Auratone and Cerwin Vega, as well as an assortment of headphones by AKG, Sony and Audio Technica... New and classic microphones by Neumann, Sennheiser, Shure, EV and AKG as well as highly modified Chinese crap capture performances in a variety of flavours... Our vintage and modern microphone preamplifiers by Neve, Ward Beck, Universal Audio, Grommes/Western Electric, McCurdy and Applied Research & Tech impart strength, depth and character to the source, while compressors, gates and de-essers by SSL, UA, Empirical Labs, Airfield, SPL, Ashley, ART, Drawmer and Aphex spank the signal into submission. .. FX are taken care of with Micmix analog reverb chambers and racks, Lexicon, Eventide, TC Electronic, POD and numerous plug-in processors, as well as a huge assortment of Moogerfoogers, BOSS, EH, and boutique stomp boxes, all patchable into the the console via balancing, line level and impedance shifting circuitry. .. We have a fair collection of instruments available for use, included in the day rate if negotiated. Available are well maintained MOOG, ARP, Roland, Yamaha, EMU, KORG and Hammond vintage keyboards, samplers, drum machines and synths, recording optimized Fender, Gibson and relic guitars and basses, Pearl Custom Drums and an assortment of percussions, Fender, Musicman, Marshall, Traynor, Gallien Kruger and Peavey amps, and a Heintzman upright. .. Our recording rooms are treated with vintage CBC sound panels for a pleasing reflection characteristic, one being dryer and the other liver, while the mixing room is fitted with custom HF diffuser/absorbers and bass traps. The smaller recording room doubles as a couch equipped hang out for those wishing to take a break from the intensity of the recording/mixing process. Our large back yard offers a place to kick about and stretch, and a breath of fresh air for smokers... Currently our rates are $500 for a 10 hour work day, usually from noon till 10pm, and $300 for a 6 hour half day. This includes the engineer and use of all equipment.
