Ryan C Morse: Lead Vocals & Rhythm Guitar Ryan Morse, a native of South Africa started singing in choirs at a very young age and was always the stand out voice in the crowd…hmmm Ryan’s voice standing out in a crowd…it certainly does!! Upon graduation from Law at the University of Pretoria, he embarked on a mission to travel the world in search of his ultimate destiny, reason for being….and maybe a few chicks.
After the owner of a club in Eilat Israel heard Ryan singing karaoke, he offered him a regular gig making Ryan the King of Karaoke. From there he found his calling and no, it wasn’t Karaoke, but a true passion for singing. With rock icons of the likes of Queen, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Brian Adams as his role models, Ryan set out to achieve what they did. Writing many songs throughout his 4 year travels and developing his vocal talent forming the unique and recognizable style known today as the voice of PARKLANE.
Beyond signing with a local producer and starting a 3 piece band called PARKLANE – 64, their first recorded song, ‘Faith’, aired on a national radio station and went to number one. This immediately resulted in an opening show for the largest band in South Africa for an audience of 10,000 people….and tons of chicks…..not scary at all!
It was a rollercoaster ride that lasted 1 year before the young group disbanded but not before getting the crash course of Ryan’s life…Music Industry 101.
Once deciding to take a hiatus from music, Ryan became a workaholic drone until by some grace of the universe he met Daniel Fuchs, who rented a room in his house affectionately referred to as "The Mansion", who never….ever stopped playing his guitar. Eventually Ryan sold his dining room furniture and bought the biggest sound system he could find.
2 years and a million failed band members later, Ryan and Daniel came across Darin Collins and Damian Staz, they had all the right chemistry to make their songs super awesome and totally FA…and PARKLANE was reborn!
Darin Collins: Bass Guitar & Backing Vocals
Darin Collins was born smack bang in the middle of the seventies in South Africa's biggest city, Johannesburg. At age five he moved to Durban on the coast where his mother married his adopted Dad, which proved to play a key part in forming his love and appreciation for rock music. Memories from then include sitting in front of his record player flipping though his Dad's record collection which was swirling with the amazing music & artwork of the rock bands of the day; Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep etc..
During this time he was also introduced to the ocean & learned to surf at a young age, growing up in the city's rich social beach lifestyle, overflowing with music, parties & the warm & colorful surfing culture of the eighties & nineties. The music pouring out of the times caught hold of his attention and he studied those albums more than his school work. Bands such as Guns 'n Roses, The Cult, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Faith No More & the Red Hot Chili Peppers were everything to his young mind & he aspired to one day walk as tall among his icons. In 1991 Blood Sugar Sex Magik by the Red Hot Chili Peppers was released and it, in Darin’s words, blew his mind sideways & back & forth, again & again. He was amazed and in awe & could not get enough of it, ever. He was hereby introduced to the punk-funk bass assault otherwise known as Flea and immediately started saving for his first bass guitar.
Around about this time he finished school & moved to London, England where he lived for two years watching as many live shows as possible & immersed himself in all the lyrics, bands, guitars, magazines, scales, shows and music hype he could find. In 1997 he moved back to South Africa, but relocated to Cape Town, a city with a somewhat richer & more developed art & music scene than Durban. He decided to study multimedia to bring his artistic skills up to date in the modern world of computers & after two more years found himself able to design & create everything he needed to, to package himself as a musician. He played in bands at night and worked in design studios during the day for about ten years before the day he met Ryan Morse & Daniel Fuchs and went for his first audition with PARKLANE, which went terribly! Ryan & him almost got into a fight & he left that jam-room thinking it was an awful idea to join the band. About two weeks later Ryan phoned him up and asked if he wanted to try again, so he again found himself in a sticky situation that night as he couldn't feel the kick with their drummer at the time. On the way home he suggested a drummer he'd played with before, an extraordinary jazz cat called Damian Staz. They phoned him up & somehow, by the grace of the gods he had no gigs planned for that summer, he was in & that was that… the PARKLANE bus began rolling.
We have found our new drummer, introducing to you Mr. Graham Shaw :) You will meet him soon, next time you come to a PARKLANE show in fact.. Be prepared to be blown away!!
