About Park Rock:
Park Rock Fest 2009 marks our seventh year for the event! The first Park Rock Fest was held in 2000, and the second in 2004, third in 2005, fourth in 2006, and the fifth in 2007; all were held at Chancellors Run Regional Park on the Labor Day weekend . The 2007 event was a huge success. There was close to 2000 participants, and significant community participation. For 2008, there will be over 12 months of planning culminating in the event. The PRF 2008 is organized and produced by the Power Jam Music Alliance (PJMA).
The goal of the event is to bring together the band members of PJMA and the counties of St. Mary’s, Calvert and Charles to share in an end of summer rock concert. This year’s event will feature 5 stages with +14 bands performing on each stage for two days. The goal for 2008 is to include a wide range of music styles from the origins of rock in the fifties to all styles of music available today that has a rock influences. In addition, to the music stages there will be 3 other venues: Food Court, Community Center and Market Place. Similar to the first event, it will be held on the Saturday and Sunday before Labor Day. The 2004 event had such good response that in 2005 the event was expanded to two days: Saturday and Sunday, In 2006 we added a fourth stage to feature musicians that play at the PJMA Coffee House Concerts and in 2007 we added a fifth stage to feature groups that play at our Go-Go events. The gate open at 9 AM with the first band performance starting at 10 AM and ending at 10:00 PM. Consistent with PJMA & community events; Park Rock Fest is a drug free, alcohol free, and obscenity free event that can be attended by all ages.
Any surplus funds from the PRF are used to further the the community efforts fo PJMA . The PJMA is a group of musicians that share their music talent to better the community welfare. Their non-profit status is through their franchise with My Brothers Place Inc. in Waldorf Maryland. The PRF 2007 is sponsored by the St. Mary’s County Recreation, Parks, and Community Services (RP&CS) and the St. Mary’s County Commissioners.
