Influences
ADONAI & HIS WORD (the Bible)and HIS people. My mother, CLARA, was a great spiritual and musical influence, with a voice that could move mountains. All of my children - who continue to amaze me with their beauty, love and creativity. MAXINE SLAWSON, my spiritual mentor and mother, who unconditionally gives of herself in order that others learn and apply the deeper things of the God to their everyday walk in faith. In later years VICTOR ABEL, a renaissance man, with a great mind - my classical/operatic music mentor - who gave me a deeper understanding of the language of music. PAUL CONTOS - for nurturing and leading me toward a spiritual path in life-I will always be grateful for his love, music and friendship. There are many other artists, friends, and people in my life who have had a profound influence on music, art, literature - too numerous to mention, with the exception of, BOB CARTER, a Nashvillian & prolific modern psalmist/musician/producer... who taught me "to see" beyond the world's standards of cultural christianity and look deeper into the Spirit. To use the voice as an "instrument of the soul."
Musical and spiritual roots run deep in a childhood that was surrounded and steeped in the rhythm of heaven. I was raised on a mixture of sounds that encompassed the hawaiian surf, southwest mesas and european landscapes. I love creating vocal textures in musical arrangements, along with, guitar and percussion to weave messages/ testimonies of human struggle and God's great love and mercy into original psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Personally, I have traveled "a multitude of paths" in one lifetime and have found peace, strength and purpose on an intimate path of faith in God through Yeshua Ha Meshiach (Jesus the Christ).
The power of musical expression as a catalyst in healing is profound to me. I am constantly amazed at the stories of hearts that have been moved or changed through music. As a professional and lay counselor, I have had the opportunity to walk alongside diverse groups of people through difficult places. In using biblical precepts as a foundation, I have witnessed amazing transformations.
An avid supporter of world outreach, I take deeply to heart the words of Matthew 28:19 ~ that the church, as a company of believers, is to be an active force in bringing hope, strength and the light of the gospel to people around the world. Not only in words, but hands on reality. Raw faith in human form.
Apart from music and media venues, ministering to the needs of others in intimate settings, and one-on-one with those who endure emotional and physical suffering, is, I believe, the heart of this ministry. Where the reality of God's Spirit truly manifests itself ~ and humanity is at its deepest core...
