The Party Stompers, a Detroit band that puts their own twist on the primitive, gritty sound of the Motor City bar bands of the 1958-63 era, is a group built around the dual guitar attack of Jeff Meier (Rocket 455, Detroit Cobras, Compulsive Gamblers, The Shanks, Nathaniel Mayer, The Exit Eyes) and Mike Hurtt (Royal Pendletons, Nathaniel Mayer, Michael Hurtt & his Haunted Hearts).
The Party Stompers, formed in early 2008, play vintage rock 'n' roll, R&B, blues, ballads, jumped-up hillbilly, cajun, swamp pop, and anything else they happen to like. The Party Stompers take their name from the savage 1960 single by the local group The Egyptians, "The Party Stomp" (the flip side was "Inkster Boogie," now part of the Stompers' repertoire), which captures the quintessential sound of raw, rockin' Detroit R&B as the '50s segued into the '60s.
