Always my guiding light, my father, the..... DYA SINGH!!! I am lucky to have been brought up going to music festivals such as Woodford, Womad, the old Victor Harbour Folk Festival, Fringe, National Folk Fest, and many many more here in Australia and also USA/Canada/UK/Singapore, so I have been exposed to wonderful music and dance from all over the world from a very young age. Put that with the saturday morning wake up to Video Hits or now MTV/VH1 and you get a very interesting blend :) They have influenced me to create my own style and identity bringing together the fusion of the modern world yet retaining the cultural heritage of my past.

CHECK OUT!!! ABC Radio National Music Deli website for special feature @ http://www.abc.net.au/rn/musicdeli/features/DyaSingh/default.htm

Parvyn is a unique performer. Combining her heritage from ancestral India with elements of jazz, blues, folk and country, Parvyn’s stunning, pure and soulful voice has captured the hearts of audiences around the world. She performs traditional, contemporary and original songs sung in English, Punjabi, Arabic, Hindi, Malay and Portuguese, as well as many forms of dance including both North and South Indian classical styles.
Parvyn started singing and performing at the age of 5 as part of a traditional Sikh spiritual band led by her father Dya Singh, often taking time off school and later university to tour nationally and internationally to countries such as America, Canada, UK, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and India.
Parvyn always took a keen interest in musical, choir and dance activities at her school and was a member of the Adelaide Girls Choir for many years. Her first dance training was in Bharatnatyam, South Indian Classical dance and later, with her sisters, she travelled to Singapore on a scholarship to study Kathak dance and classical north Indian vocal.
In High School Parvyn was introduced to Jazz, Pop, R&B and Blues styles of singing by Adelaide vocal teacher Danny Helps, who also conducted her senior school choir Rhythms of Accapella. She began to compose her own songs in English, performing them at local venues and festivals with her sisters.
In 2010 she formed the genre-defying band BluGuru with her soon-to-be husband Josh Bennett and musical chameleon Andrew Clermont. BluGuru gave her the freedom to experiment with combining both her Indian and Western singing styles in the one forum.
Parvyn is also “The Mysterious Lady” in The Bombay Royale: Melbourne’s 60s and 70s Bollywood inspired Surf, disco and funk band. The release of their debut album “You Me Bullets Love” in May 2012 was met with high acclaim from critics and reached number #1 on world music charts around the globe. It won awards such as Age EG Awards - Best New Talent 2012 and iTunes Breakthrough Album of the Year in World Music. They continue to perform at festivals nation wide and intend to tour Europe and USA in 2013 and 2014.
Parvyn now regularly travels to Ahmedabad, India to continue her study in Classical Indian vocal training and Kathak dance at internationally acclaimed Kadmab Dance Academy headed by Smt. Kumidini Lakhia and the Saptak School of Music.
In Australia she often performs at festivals such as Woodford Folk Festival, National Folk Festival, WOMADelaide, Bellingen Global Carnival, Maldon Folk Festival, Fairbridge Folk Festival and many other multicultural events across all states.
Internationally she has performed at the Winnepeg Folk Festival, Salmon Arm Folk Fest, Hillside Festival, California World Music Fest, Sakifo Festival on Reunion Island, Royal Albert Hall, Singapore Arts Festival, Smithsonian Institute, and extensively across Sikh community venues all over the globe.
Together with her husband Josh, Parvyn also tours the nation presenting cultural education workshops on Indian classical and Bollywood music and dance at primary and secondary schools as well as festivals and events working with organisations such as Multicultural Arts Victoria and Nexus Arts.
