About me: AOA is located downtown, one block from the waterfront
where those traveling by boat receive free docking on the
Pasquotank River.
AOA, established in 1969 became a registered non-profit
arts council in 1980. In the 80's AOA purchased the
Sharber Building where the retail gallery, the AOA School
of the Arts Program and Encore Theatre Company call
home.
Arts of the Albemarle is dedicated to promoting
the arts in the Albemarle Area and committed to providing
cultural opportunities to all people.
AOA depends highly on volunteers, the governing board
and gallery workers who volunteer their time to help keep
operating expenses to a minimum
Our new facility is currently in renovations and will
become the new home for AOA and Encore Theatre
Company in late 2008. The historical Lowry-Chesson Building will become a huge asset and encourage economic growth in downtown Elizabeth City.
Visit our Gallery where you will find original artwork, one of
a kind handcrafted items and photography.
AOA teaches music, visual and performing arts to children
and adults through the Arts of the Albemarle School of
the Arts Program.
AOA is the home for resident Encore Theatre Company.
The company produces three shows per year with about
twenty performance nights.
Who I'd like to meet: Anyone who is interested in the arts
