Cadence Magazine calls saxophonist/composer Pat Donaher “a talent worth watching”. His work defies categorization, moving from electronica to musical interpretations of e.e. cummings to free improvisation to big bands, from string quartets to pop tunes.
“The amazing thing about being in music right now is that every door is open- so many of the walls between worlds, between genres, between ‘scenes’ have been obliterated, and we are able to inhabit all the spaces created where those walls used to be. The work is to constantly engage, to enter those places headfirst and make them our own, and invite the listener along.”
Pat has lived and worked in Boston, Rocherster, and New York City. He composition “PorkPie” was featured in the Knitting Factory’s webcast “Decompostition” series in 2000. He leads several different projects, highlighting his different compositional and programmatic interests, which have featured such musicians as Brad Shepik, Curtis Fowlkes, Matt Shulman, Peter Epstein, Khabu Doug Young, Michael Plunkett, and Damion Reed. In addition, he collaborated in various multimedia projects involving theatre, poetry and visual art. His music for large ensemble has been performed at several major venues nationally, including Jordan Hall in Boston and Eastman Theatre in Rochester by both collegiate and professional ensembles, and his settings of the poetry of ee cummings for vocalists and strings were featured prominently at a cummings birthday celebration in his’ hometown of Cambridge, MA. In 2003 he was recognized by the American Society of Composers and Producers (ASCAP) for excellence in jazz composition.
Pat has released two commercial CDs, "On Any Given Day", featuring trumpeter Ralph Alessi, and No Sale Value's Debut, "Nu Currency", featuring Matt Schulman, Jenny Scheinman, and Chris Vatalaro.
Recent projects include No Sale Value, an explosive electronic band featuring singer Sunny Kim, and a new acoustic quartet with drummer Richie Barshay and trumpeter Nicole Rampersaud. Pat also continues a longstanding interest in duos, most recently with pianist Camille Jentgen.
Pat's broad musical background has allowed him a tremendous variety of performance opportunities. He has played with , among others, Steve Vai, Bernard Haitink and the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra, Steve Lacy, Joe Henderson, Dave Douglas, Michael Cain, Bob Brookmeyer, Steve Lacy, Benny Carter, Gene Jackson, Maria Schneider, Dave Liebman, Ralph Alessi, Brad Shepik, David Amram and Matt Wilson.
Beyond his musical career, Pat is a devoted yoga practitioner and aspiring yoga teacher. He taught an entire calypso band a mean downward dog. He doesn't eat much meat but does hanker for shellfish on occasion, and wears more orange than most white males. He spends disproportionate amounts of time looking for life's meanings, cool records, and age-appropriate pickup lines (coming to the conclusion that this might be a contradiction in terms). Pat does not usually refer to himself in the third person, except in these silly self-promotions. Namaste!

Hi Pat-
Thanks for the add!
It's been a while and I've been meaning to get back in touch, so it's nice to hear from you. The music on the site sounds great. I'm in Boston keeping a low profile but hoping to get out and play soon.
Take care,
Carmen.
