About me: PRA is devoted to the education and empowerment of the patient and public on health. Our focus right now is closely on cancer.
We all know cancer can be prevented. The New Biology (Lipton et al) provides us with factual insight as to why. Understanding that genes do not control biology, and that environmental stimuli activate genes is information that all can benefit from. Genetic determinism and the Primacy of DNA are theories of the past. There is a new, bright future for health-care. We are living in that future right now, with the science of self-empowerment as the keystone.
We feel strongly, that by educating the public about the New Biology and cutting edge research in the field of Epigenetics (control above genetics), citizens from all walks of life will be empowered to maintain their own health.
Observing static statistics like the yearly death count in the U.S. due to cancer (550,000/year), and cancer death rate (1950 - 194 out of every 100,000 people)(2001- 196 out of every 100,000 people) call for analysis. The truth is that the human body and mind are encoded for adaptation, and wired for survival.
We are learning from the New Biology that we have been "....programmed to believe in genetic determinism." (Lipton). Longevity has more to do with inputs (environment), and processing (perception) than genes ever did. Chronic fear is a negative psychological perception that contributes to the vicious cycle of suffering associated with cancer. Fear is a stressor. It fosters self-doubt and dependence. The chronic fear of the uncontrollable spread of cancer can be mitigated with education on human immunity (cytokines, cytotoxic t-cells, natural killer cells),detoxification and basic human rights. Specifically, the right to make informed choices regarding one's own care.
Once we can acknowledge our innate immunity as a powerful adaptive tool that serves to maximize life experience, we can see a grand new horizon of medical thinking, and application. We can take responsibility for our inputs and be more self-reliant.
Immune defense and enhancement are the "new keys" to survival. Chronic fear is malignant. Self-doubt is cancerous. Greater independence, and prolonged life are the ultimate goals.
You can say "no". Think "armistice". Call for a truce in this ongoing war.
