As the founder, singer and songwriter for LA rock band Rubyfish, Patria Jacobs was a presence in the early Silver Lake music scene. Her first solo cd, "Poison of the Sea" displays her unflinching and dreamy observations of the human condition couched within her folk, rock, pop, ambient and often country songwriting style. The cd, produced by Stew (Negro Problem, Passing Strange) and Marc Doten (Double Naught Spy Car, Native Shrubs) was selected "Homegrown," notable local music chosen by Amoeba Music staff, and was chosen as a top ten cd of the year on KPFK-Los Angeles by DJ Barry Smolin’s "Top Ten Albums of the Year."
"Poison of the Sea" is a watery collection of nautical songs featuring performances by Stew, Doten, Probyn Gregory, (Brian Wilson, The Wondermints), Paul Lacques (I See Hawks in LA), Heidi Rodewald (Negro Problem, co-composer, Passing Strange, Wednesday Week), Tina Link (10 cent), Russell Chaput (Rubyfish, Anemone) and Derrick Anderson (Rubyfish, The Andersons, Dave Davies). The cd has two tracks featuring legendary jazz harpist Corky Hale (Billie Holiday, Sinatra, Bjork, Air).
