PEOPLE WHO WILL HELP FUND THIS OVARIAN OUTREACH PEOPLE WHO HAVE STORIES TO TELL ABOUT OVARIAN CANCER PEOPLE WHO SPONSOR ON A CORPERATE LEVEL RESEARCH FOR A PRESCREENING TEST FOR EARLY DETECTION. LAST YEAR 23000 WOMEN WERE DIGANOSED IN THE USA. 17000 DIED LESS THEN 20% SURVEIE. WE MUST AND CAN CHANGE THESE FACTS WITH A PRESREENING TEST. HELP US RAISE THE ENDLESS FUNDS TO ACHIVE THIS . RESEARCH: OVARIAN CANCER PREVENTION
AND EARLY DETECTION
STUDY BY JAMES LAPOLLA, MD
Women's Cancer Associates is participating in the "Ovarian Cancer and Early Detection Study" which is Sponsored through the National Cancer Institute. This study looks at ways to help certain women lower their risk of ovarian cancer and to find ovarian cancer early. Participants in the study include women whose genes or family history may increase their risk of ovarian cancer.

The study has two arms, the Screening Arm and the Surgical Arm. The patient has a choice as to which arm she feels would be right for her. The Screening Arm checks regularly to measure the body's level of a chemical called CA-125. Trans vaginal ultrasounds are also required yearly. The Surgical Arm is removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes. It also includes having CA-125 blood test drawn. Both arms of this study have various forms that need to be completed throughout the study.

Women's Cancer Associates has enrolled 27 patients on this study to date. There are 8 patients who have chosen the surgical arm and 19 have chosen to undergo screening.
