Patrick Dorobisz-Kondrackas wordt geboren in Frankrijk op 25 mei 1955 als kind van een Poolse vader en een Letse moeder. Hij ruilt zijn Poolse nationaliteit in voor de Franse op dertienjarige leeftijd, en woont in België, in de provincie West-Vlaanderen.
Vanaf zijn prille jeugd volgt hij muziek-, teken- en schilderlessen. Wanneer hij student is aan de academie voor Schone Kunsten en na zijn studies architectuur, maakt hij zijn eerste composities van elektro-akoestische repetitieve muziek en ook zijn eerste sonore installaties/happenings. Tijdens zijn studies is hij eveneens gitarist in de groep: John’s/ Omintone (Free Jazz –Progressive Rock).

In 1976 behaalt hij met succes zijn Nationaal Diploma voor Schone Kunsten, en deze kunstopleiding zal altijd de rode draad vormen doorheen zijn muziek. De transversaliteit van de kunsten is het kloppend hart van zijn poëticale opzet.
Van 1984 tot 1987 wordt hij uitgenodigd door de componisten Lucien Goëthals en José Berghmans aan het Instituut voor Psycho-akoestiek en Elektronische Muziek van Gent, in België [ IPEM ].
Hij componeert daar verschillende stukken computer music en behaalt in 1986 de internationale prijs voor elektro-akoustiek tijdens het internationale festival van Bourges voor zijn werk “Souprematika”, dat in real time door de computer wordt gegenereerd en gecreëerd wordt in de studio van het IPEM.
Zijn werken worden opgevoerd in Frankrijk, in Duitsland in de periode van 1975 tot 1980, vooral tijdens de tentoonstellingen, op het festival van Avignon, in België te Gent, op het festival van Bourges (1986), in de opera van Lille (1987) “Alice de l’autre côté du miroir”, op het Computer Music Festival van Seoel (1987) “Autres Directions”, in Berlijn: The Sound of Israel, “Geometria”, op de International Music Conference van Ann Arbor, Michigan – USA (1998) “3+11”, te Santa Fe, en ook in het auditorium van het nationaal conservatorium van Lille, Frankrijk (2003-2006)
Zijn werk is veelzijdig, veelvormig, plastisch en conceptueel, van zijn eerste elektronische experimenten tot zijn strijkkwartetten en het laat de luisteraar nooit onberoerd.
Patrick Dorobisz heeft een muzikale taal gecreëerd die haar inspiratie put uit de beeldende vormgeving en de architectuur, en die ons uitnodigt denkbeeldige sonore ruimtes en nieuwe universums te ontdekken.
Hij biedt ons een nieuwe blik op de hedendaagse muziek, vanuit zijn benadering als schilder, architect, en kunstzinnige componist.

Patrick Dorobisz est né en 1955 en France d'un père Polonais et d'une mère Lithuanienne.
Après un parcours classique entre collège, lycée, conservatoire, il entre à l'Académie des Beaux-arts.
De 1970 à 1973, il est guitariste dans le groupe de rock progressif : John's Omintone.

Ses œuvres musicales ont été jouées à plusieurs reprises dans le monde entier.
En France, en Allemagne durant la période 1975-80, principalement lors d'expositions, au festival d'Avignon, en Belgique à Gand, au festival de Bourges (1986), à l’opéra de Lille (1987) "alice de l'autre côté du miroir", au Computer Music Festival de Seoul (1987) "Autres Directions", à Berlin : The Sound of Israel, "Geometria", à l’International Music Conference de Ann Arbor, Michigan – USA (1998) "3+11", à Santa Fe, ou encore à l’auditorium du conservatoire national de Lille-France (2003-2006). A plusieurs reprises ses oeuvres ont été soutenues par la Direction Régionale des affaires culturelles de Lille.
Etudiant aux Beaux-Arts au début des années 70, il se détourne des formes convenues de l’art contemporain visuel ou musical pour expérimenter une transdisciplinarité artistique où la musique deviendra peu à peu son langage artistique dominant.
Il utilse les technologies de l'époque et réalise de nombreuses installations sonores expérimentales, des happenings, une peinture géométrique qui s'inscrit dans le minimal art et des pièces musicales répétitives ou conceptuelles.
Sa composition musicale est issue directement de ses recherches picturales sur le minimal art, le concept artistique y joue un rôle dominant, mais elle prend aussi ses racines dans l'architecture dont il est diplômé.
En 1976 il obtient avec succès son Diplôme National des Beaux-Arts. cette formation artistique sera toujours la ligne de force qui transparaîtra dans sa musique.
La transversalité des arts est au coeur de sa démarche.
En 1984 il est invité par les compositeurs Lucien Goëthals et José Berghmans, à l'Institut de Psychoacoustique et de musique électronique de Gand en Belgique pour y créer plusieurs oeuvres....
En 1986 il remporte le prix international de musique électro-acoustique au festival international de Bourges.
Patrick vit en Belgique dans la province de West Vlaanderen.

PATRICK DOROBISZ
was born on the 25th of May 1955 in France to a Polish father and a Lithuanian mother.
Patrick is a Polish national, but became a naturalized French citizen at the age of 13. He studied music, drawing and painting from an early age.
He started his first repetitive electronic music compositions and produced sound installations while studying at the Academy of Fine Arts, after obtaining a diploma in architecture.
He was also guitar player (1971-1973) in the progressive rock band
He earned a National Diploma in Fine Arts in 1976. This artistic education remains the foundation of his music. His first defining piece was entitled “John’s collage 1973” and consisted of collages of magnetic tapes for the progressive rock group in which he played. This musical experiment was played out on several deliberately unsynchronized tape players. “Gretsch pattern," a piece for electric guitar, was completed that same year and was followed by a group of pieces grouped as the “Electro” series.
Dorobisz wrote his music in France and Germany between 1975 and 1980. Composer Lucien Goethals, the director of the IPEM, invited him to Belgium in Ghent (Institute for Psychoacoustics and Electronic Music-IPEM) where he wrote music from 1984 to 1987. His piece "Souprematika," created in the Institute’s studio, won the International Electro-acoustic Award at Bourges festival (1986).
Dorobisz' other compositions from this period are: "Alice de l'autre côté du miroir" at Lille opera house (1987), "Autres directions" at the Seoul Computer Music festival (1987), the sound of Israel in Berlin, "Geometria" at the International Music Conference in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA (1998), and "3+11" which was performed in Santa Fe, and at the Auditorium in Lille in France (2003-2006). In the 1970's, Patrick composed his music using the analog devices of the time, the first synthesizers and tape recorders.
He started using computers in 1983, then in the 1990s came the physical "modeling" of acoustic sounds. It was during these years that he went on to compose several mixed pieces for orchestras and solo instrumentalists. His work can be described as multiple, protean, plastic and conceptual. Dorobisz has sought to "never leave the listener indifferent" from the period of his first electronic experiments to his string quartets and throughout his career in composition.
Patrick Dorobisz has created a musical language for himself drawn from pictorial composition, and he invites the listener to discover imaginary sound spaces which use chance operation as part of the composition, giving the listener a unique and definitive experience of the composition with each performance. Patrick describes this redefinition of the piece with each unique performance, "Universes where the musical architecture derives above all from pictorial research." Patrick's approaches contemporary music with the vision of a painter, architect and visual artist. When asked by an American music critic what it was like to create both visual art and also music, he responded: "What's the difference? I'm either painting on time or painting on a canvas."
Patrick Dorobisz Kondrackas lives in Belgium in the province of West Flanders, where he continues his musical research.
