McClary has been credited with giving Daybreakdown its distinctive, gritty Southern rock sound with his soulful songwriting, deep, gravely vocals and vicious slide guitar work. During McClary's five years with the band, Daybreakdown played over 800 shows, and toured with or opened for String Cheese Incident, David Allan Coe, The Wailers, North Mississippi Allstars, Jason Isbell & 400 Unit, Jerry Joseph & The Jackmormons, George Porter Jr., Tea Leaf Green, Randall Bramblett, Kevn Kinney, the Kudzu Kings, Cary Hudson, Tishamingo, Old Union, Electric Mudd, Shady Deal, etc. In 2005, Daybreakdown was named the "Best Up & Coming Southern Rock Band" by Honest Tune Magazine.
