I am influenced not only by every kind of music that I hear, but also every piece of art, every poem, every dance, every play - the statement that I make with my music has been influenced by every kind of art that I have taken in over the course of my lifetime.
I am a piano student in Baltimore. I am currently studying under Dr. Duke Thompson, who is the founder and director of the Maryland Conservatory of Music. I am in my sophomore year in high school at the Baltimore School for the Arts. I have recorded Bach's Two-Part Inventions, and that recording was released in early 2006 (recorded in 2005).
I am very unhappy with the state that classical music is in at this point in time. First of all, I hate calling it classical music. That alone makes it seem as though it is not fresh and interesting. It also seperates it from the people who are writing music today. There is lots and lots of wonderful, interesting, expressive, artistic music that people are writing today. What seperates them from the music that was written 200 years ago besides time? "Classical" music is simply music, and music is still alive today.
I enjoy playing a sonata by Scarlatti as much as I enjoy improvising at the keyboard. I enjoy the power in Liszt's Totentanz as much as I enjoy the power of AC/DC's Thunderstruck. I enjoy the longing in Rachmaninoff's piano concerti as much as I enjoy the longing in Emery's The Weak's End. I enjoy the wittiness of Mozart's music as much as the witty songs of Relient K. Whether it is the sparkle of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue or the threatening Dies Irae of Verdi's requiem or the smooth vocals of James Blunt, it is all art and it all expression through the manipulation of sound.
It's all music, and I urge you to enjoy it all!

Hello, Patrick Merrill
in celebration of my 25th birthday this April 15th. I have posted the song "Electrorave" on my profile
and have made it available for free download through myspace. It will be available till April 15th.
So if you like any of that techno, rave, dance type stuff...make sure to stop by and download your copy.
BTW, the download is around 9megs as it is at high quality 320Kbps.
Hope your weekend is going great, drop by and say hi, listen to me tunes, comment on my pics whatever....
I've just unpacked my new ShureSM57 and set it up in the studio so it called for a new song to be written. The song is on my song list thing on MySpace and is called Fit.
Hope you like it - it's another sub 2 minute piece of mahem with a little Iron Maiden type guitar thing going on in the chorus.
So it's nearly time to go out and have a curry and some shandy. Think I might go for it tonight.....
Keep safe and remember what ever you do 'Keep rockin'
Patrick.
Great playing. I like your clean style at the piano and also I agree with your idea I read in your profile.
Each peace is very good; I mean it
Best luck with all yours projects.
Lazaro

Hey Patrick...thanx for the add. Your really talented homie. I like your comments about music. its so true and relevant. So I take it our sounds have interested you? Some feedback would be great. Anyway thanx again and keep in touch. Peace and much respect...
I quite fancy your conjuring notes of sweet delight from the keyboard. Though not explicitly classical, orchestral themes are the backbone of my compositions and would fall without them. Indeed, classical surely lives.
My thoughts on music are similar - I appreciate a wide range. The music that is labeled "classical", presently has a contracting cultural viability, and it will take a very serious effort by all classical musicians, with a true dedication and love for what they do - and a true desire to share - in order to change this.
In the course of this, many serendipitous changes will occur that will coalesce naturally to breathe new life into old forms.
Our approaches to the Bach inventions are very different - but the expressive differences may masque a shared vision.
