Leo Kottke, John Fahey, Stefan Grossman, Rev Gary Davis, Mississippi John Hurt, Elizabeth Cotten, Ernie Hawkins, Woody Mann, Mary Flower, Helen Avakian, Brian Gallaway, The Beatles, Neil Young, Mike Baglione, Dave Van Ronk, Jeff Babicz - and special thanks to my wonderful dearly departed friend Gary Emmons of Crackerbox Music who kept my instruments in tip top condition, and taught me SO MUCH about guitars.
I, Patrick, (a.k.a. "The Poozmeister") was born very young. But that was a long time ago (1955). Around age 4, my parents though I was some kind of musical genius because I could pick out melodies to children's songs and TV commercials on the piano - with one finger of course. I did have a few years of piano lessons as a kid, but unfortunately today, I play piano only marginally better than I did at age 4.
I took up acoustic guitar years later. As much as I was blown away by the excitement of the British Invasion, I wasn't inspired to learn to play until the mid 1970's. This was when I heard a guy in my college dorm playing elaborate acoustic instrumentals by Leo Kottke, John Fahey, Rev. Gary Davis, Mississippi John Hurt, Doc Watson .... and this "fingerstyle" acoustic guitar sounded like an entire band to me! So I jumped on the bandwagon, took lessons from the same guy he did, and I've been an addict ever since.
It was 10 years though before I had the nerve to play publically. After another 10 years, I began singing while playing publically. A few years after that, I felt like I could play and sing naked in front of people. Fortunately, that hasn't been necessary.
I haven't gotten around to recording much yet - hopefully this summer as I seem to have more time now. Hoping we cross paths!
