Musically first and foremost...I am a BLUES musician, a Bassist, growing Vocalist and Songwriter. But..., as far as the musical influences go, just listen closely enough and you'll be able to dissect them easily. In regards to my original compositions, if it sounds like Blues one measure, Pop the next, Jazz the next, 70's Rock the next, its only because it's music. NEVER limit yourself to just one genre as this is key and essential and has been a big river for me to cross in relation to my stage music. I have discovered that in no way have I turned my back on the Blues music world that has been so good to me and that I in return love so dearly. Staying in the same bag is also essential when playing live but as a songwriter those that know me as a Blues purist shake their head in wonder. It comes out sounding this way so it has to be presented as is. The beautiful thing is that I can pay homage to the musical influences from every label of music that I grew up on and THAT I think is the best tribute. It is just music and music only and if it grooves, just go with it.
Everything in life regardless of how positive or negative is an influence as my ears have heard many wonderful sounds and many not so wonderful sounds so either way it has taught me what I want to be and what I don't want to be musically.
As for myself as a musician and if music (and my ears have heard it) -
1) Has something to say (by way of a Spiritual or intellectual message)
2) Has Passion & Emotion
3) Has Groove & Tone
4) Bares the Soul
5) Has the power to get one emotional or cry everytime you hear that music by all means is an influence.
A closed mind musically is the greatest opponent that any musician can ever hope to battle especially if it is your own mind because you only hold yourself back.
Musicians who have something serious to say through their music that can touch & heal the Soul instead of meaningless drivel & gibberish and musicians that make me weep everytime I listen to them no matter how many times I have heard them and anyone who has ever laid down a groove that came from somewhere deep within their soul that were REAL & HONEST and most especially BELIEVABLE is as influential as one can get.
And this is a big influence:

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?
A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:
