About me:
Kim was probably best known for being Keith Moon's wife in the sixties/seventies, but she was so much more than that. She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and wife, to both Keith Moon and Ian McLagan.
Kim was born Maryse Patricia Elizabeth Kerrigan on December 30, 1948, to Bill and Joan Kerrigan. In her childhood, she lived in Malysia with her parents, and apparently spoke Malay before she spoke English. When the Kerrigan family moved back to England, Kim worked as a hairdresser, and soon became a model. Around 1964, she met Keith Moon. With his big beautiful brown eyes and his charm, she couldn't resist him, and Keith was madly in love with her. During this period, Keith was not particularly well known, and for the most part, he treated Kim with more respect than he did in the later years. In late 65' Kim got pregnant by Keith and they married on the 12th of March in 1966, when she was four or five months pregnant. On July 12, 1966, their daughter Amanda "Mandy" Jane Moon was born. Even though Keith adored Mandy, he wasn't there as much as he should of been and mostly left Kim to take care of her while he was touring and on drunken rampages and such...
Later, in 1967, Kim and Keith moved into a London flat. This was where Keith's irrational behaviour and abuse towards Kim seemed to have begun. He threw a wine bottle at her on one occasion. Soon, Kim began to look forward to Keith being with the band so she and Mandy could have time to themselves. In 1969, Kim and her family moved into what was known as Tara House. Here, Keith's problems escalated due to his drugging and drinking. But as Kim often mentioned, she still loved him and cared for him,because she understood why he drank. And things were not always tumultuous and chaotic in the Moon household; there were the rare occasions that Keith and Kim would actually get on with each other. However, the dark side of Keith soon became too much for Kim to handle, and in 1973, she left Keith. For Keith, it was unbearable, because he knew it was all his fault; he would never be the same because of it. He was depressed and was swept further away into a world of drugs and alcohol. They officially divorced in 1975. Kim then got together with another rock star, Ian McLagan, of Faces fame. They married in October 1978, a month after Keith Moon died of a Hemineverin overdose. Kim wore a black dress on their wedding day in honour of Keith. Obviously, this marriage was much more peaceful; the McLagan's lived very happily together for 28 years. In addition to modelling, Kim had also owned her own business, K.M Skincare, in Austin, Texas. Sadly, Kim passed away on August 2, 2006 after a particularly nasty car accident. A garbage truck had hit her. The world had lost a wonderful person. The man who drove the truck was distraught that he had killed someone. Kim's family forgave him.
Kim's greatest characteristics may very well be her patience and undying love for others, no matter what. Even though Keith Moon could be terrible to her, she still loved him to the end, and only very special people can still love somebody who did those kind of things.
Kim is survived by her husband, Ian McLagan, her daughter, Mandy Moon DeWolf, granddaughters Jessica and Samantha, and the Kerrigan, Moon, and McLagan families. May Kim find peace with Keith now and be a guardian angel to us all!
