Lagos Disco Machine - Destruction Sound.. ...... ..CAT NO. - pattern-1.. ..RELEASE - 07.05.08.. ..PRICE - $15 AUD ..'The latest offering from Lagos Disco Machine... ..This album is beautifully constructed, with its soft piano melodies and conversation like pieces, it builds on his previous work, but in a more complex aesthetic... ..A solid album and an enjoyable spacial listening.'.. .. ....Vital Weekly Review.... ..One G. Morris is behind Lagos Disco Machine and he has an album out of Pattern Sound, a new label from Canberra, Australia. Morris plays simple tunes on a bunch of keyboards - it seems. Maybe it's a bit more complicated in the process, but at least that's how it sounds. No less than eleven tracks in the relatively short time span of thirty-one minutes. He sampled together a bunch of instruments, voices and cooks up a pretty pleasant version of electronic music, which sounds very German in a way. Think Sack, think Blumm for instance. Xylophone, humor, short pieces. Maybe it's therefore not easy to get the drift of this, but Lagos Disco Machine has in its place a great variety of poppy tunes with a great naive sense to it. Very nice crossover of pop, experiment and IDM. Done with great care. (FdW).. ......LDM Vital Weekly Review.... .. ....Cyclic Defrost Review.... ..The artist name immediately makes sense upon pressing play with this disc - the first CD release for the Canberra based PCSC label. Earthy gamelin sounds loop around processed xylophone, racing forwards and backwards simultaneously. It’s a beguiling entrance and sets up the diverse set of timbres which follows quite effectively. A mix of hissy recordings of very physical instruments with subtle and effective sampling and processing. You can quite clearly see (hear) the seems between the disparate elements but, treated as they are here, that becomes the entire, intriguing point... ..‘Laughing Face’ sees american voices, possibly snatched from movie sources intercut samples of jazz drums, assorted pipe instruments, a bit of static-y harp maybe, some acoustic guitar, lots of these elements sounding like they’ve possibly been sampled from a woozy turntable struggling to keep a regular tempo. All flung together with stickytape and glue, it’s endearing and entrancing. ‘A Discussion’ takes a slightly more linear approach, with an almost drone created from a couple of treacly samples - extra textural elements only being brought in two thirds of the way through. ‘Sudden Movements, People Deciding’ sounds like it is initially sourced from slight snatches of field recordings of the things described in the title. Then a filigree acoustic guitar figure kicks in and the mood is almost funky, in a very anti-folk kind of way. Indeed, that guitar is one of the recurring elements which binds these pieces together. Most of the tracks feature simple, melodic patterns played on nylon strings, giving each piece a focus on which to attach all the extraneous movement... ..Destruction Sound has that ability to sound incredibly simple, yet repeated listening reveals layers of invention and sound. I guess it could be loosely termed as folk-tronic, but I use that term here as an accurate description of the sounds, not to indicate any sort of lazy genericness to the album. Because, quite clearly, this is no lazy piece of work. It’s an intriguing, layered and very rewarding album... ..Adrian Elmer.. ......LDM Cyclic Defrost Review.... ..---------------------------------------------------------------------------------.. ..::DIGITAL RELEASES::.. ..Lagos Disco Machine - Warm Orange EP.. ...... ..KedArY - S/T EP.. ...... ..Yoko Solo - The Froth EP.. ...... ..Christian Toonk - Piezein.. ...... ..Ravens And Crows - S/T EP.. ...... ..Shoeb Ahmad - Bedroom Songs.. ...... ..-----------------------------------------------------------------------.. .. .. .. ..........
