Something interesting I just read:

In 2008, controversial intelligence researcher Helmuth Nyborg examined whether IQ relates to denomination and income, using representative data from the National Longitudinal Study of Youth, which includes intelligence tests on a representative selection of American youth, where they have also replied to questions about religious belief. His results, published in the scientific journal Intelligence demonstrated that on average, Atheists scored 1.95 IQ points higher than Agnostics, 3.82 points higher than Liberal persuasions, and 5.89 IQ points higher than Dogmatic persuasions. Atheists were third highest in the study overall, behind Jews and Anglicans. [6] "I'm not saying that believing in God makes you dumber. My hypothesis is that people with a low intelligence are more easily drawn toward religions, which give answers that are certain, while people with a high intelligence are more skeptical," says the professor. [7]

Nyborg also co-authored a study with Richard Lynn, emeritus professor of psychology at the University of Ulster, which compared religious belief and average national IQs in 137 countries. [8] The conclusion made by the retired professor is that religious belief had declined across the 137 nations in the 20th century at the same time as people became more intelligent. "Why should fewer academics believe in God than the general population? I believe it is simply a matter of the IQ. Academics have higher IQs than the general population. Several Gallup poll studies of the general population have shown that those with higher IQs tend not to believe in God," Lynn said to Telegraph.co.uk [9] The study uses the same data set as Lynn's work IQ and the Wealth of Nations, which has drawn criticism of accuracy and accusations of statistical manipulation.

If any one man can be credited with inventing metal, I give the praise to Tony Iommi. I know you've heard the story of how he had to de-tune his guitar after he got his fingers chopped off. That created the thick, distorted sound of metal. Whether or not Rush is metal is debatable. I think they started out pretty heavy (take "Working Man" for example) and then got softer as they went on.

I might make a "ten greatest metal bassists" or something like that for youtube soon. Would be something like this:

10.Rex Brown
9.Rob Trujilo
8.Roger Glover
7.Les Claypool
6.The dude from this awesome band called Spiral Architect, if you've heard of them
5.Dave Ellefson
4.Steve Harris
3.Geddy Lee
2.Geezer

Yeah, Hetfield even said after And Justice for All (his first album with them) that he was pissed that there was a severe lack of bass on the record.

Indeed. And their new bassist, Rob Trujilo...he's no Cliff, but he's pretty good.

I saw them at Mayhem Festival (I really only went for Mastodon and Machine Head). Pretty good. Down with the sickness is a decent song.

Eh....I don't like much newer metal. Machine Head, Mastodon, and Lamb of God are great, but I'm not all that into bands like Slipknot, Disturbed, and Korn. But good for you, hope you enjoy that.
