Paula Atherton is a singer/songwriter/woodwind player from the NY area. She has toured Japan, Monte Carlo, Portugal, the US and Canada. In 2004, Paula played at the Blue Note in NYC for a week with jazz pianist Hank Jones, in a tribute to Frank Sinatra. Also in 2004 her first CD, “Let Me Inside Your Love,” debuted on the national contemporary jazz charts. In 2006, a cut from this CD, “I Long For Your Love,” was released on Warner Europe, on a CD called, “Ladies of Jazz.” She is joined on this CD by Natalie Cole, Candy Dulfer, Eliane Elias, and other female jazz artists. Also in 2006, Paula performed on TV with Michael Bolton, on Rachael Ray, Today, and Good Morning America. Other TV appearances include Nueva Estrella awards (CBS), and bandleader for the Lifetime network show, “Girl’s Night Out” (30 episodes). Paula wrote the score for the independent film, “The Definition of Insanity,” in 2002, which premiered in NYC in 2004.
Paula performed at fundraisers for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Paula has opened for jazz guitarist Chuck Loeb. Latin star Johnny Pacheco, jazz singer Patti Austin (with Steve Briody), Tito Puente and saxophonist Najee. Paula’s new CD, “Groove with Me,” features many guest artists, including guitarist Chieli Minucci (Special EFX), trumpet player Greg Adams (Tower of Power), jazz pianist Onaje Allan Gumbs, and Bill Heller, keyboardist for the Rippingtons.
Regular members and other contributors to the CD include Schuyler Deale (Jeff Lorber, Billy Cobham, Michael Bolton), Lionel Cordew (Mike Stern, Special EFX, Jeff Lorber), Emedin Rivera (Special EFX, Dave Valentin, Paquito D’Rivera), Stanley Banks (George Benson), Darin Brown (Enrique Englesias, Willie DeVille), Steve Briody (Randy Brecker, Dave Valentin), and John Deley (Dido).
