| About Paula Wolfe |
|
As a woman who writes, performs, engineers and produces her own music, Paula Wolfe will be slotted into the category of female singer songwriter but her work in the studio and on stage serve to challenge the restrictive stereotyping often associated with the label.
From early on her career, Paula's live performances have been seen as, "possessing that all too rare quality of being able to command your attention to the point of dropping everything else...a phenomenal talent " (peoplesound.com).
As a writer, a stark realism has emerged from the themes and characters in her songs with "intelligent, literate lyrics" (MusicOMH), "sensitive" (WORD Magazine), "sharp and observant" (Arts Council), showing her to be "a rare and exceptional talent" (DRIPFED Magazine).
Wolfe's voice is one that "sends goosebumps marching up and down your spine" (LOGO Magazine) and which has marked her out as " a rising talent" (TIME OUT). When coupled with her musicianship and production skills that provide backdrops described as, "dreamy and delicious" (MusicOMH), the result is a tension that is intelligent pop at its best.
Since releasing her much acclaimed debut, 'Staring', which placed her in the radar as, "a name to watch" (MusicOMH), Paula's move to rural Norfolk to build a studio to record the second album has been a somewhat rocky ride with some interesting detours, not least those provided by the dodgy builders who put the studio and starting the album back a year and a half.
Three years down the line since her first release, however, Paula has emerged in tact with a set of songs that are richly textured both with her experiences and finely tuned production skills. There are beautiful strings and some fine beats on this album but as ever it is Paula's voice and her guitars that cut through, demonstrating that Paula Wolfe is indeed an artist who "could become a major talent" (MusicOMH).
