Paul Chamberlain's Interests
General
Since ARfm came online I have been lucky enough to indulge in a genre of rock I embraced back in the early days of un-licenced FM radio here in London. Southern Rock, the tag originally given to Lynyrd Skynyrd, now not just restricted to any band south of the Mason Dixon Line but any guitar army singing passionately about moonshine and the swamps regardless of being based in yankee territory, in Europe or even the land of the rising sun!
I have been privileged to have met Southerners One 90 Grain in South Carolina, Southern Crush in Georgia, 2 Daze Gone in Alabama, Minnesota's Greg Lee of Chain Lightning, Jimmy Farrar (ex Molly Hatchet) & Paul Chapman (ex UFO) of Gator Country, Bobby Ingram (current Molly Hatchet), Those Guys... all in Florida. Skinny Molly in… Finchley (North London) and Melonheadman in Plumstead.
Legendary singer Maggie Bell, Mr Big/Broken Home’s Dicken and Consortium.
As for eating? Not too demanding. In the UK Bella Pasta, Old Orleans, Frankie & Benny's, Harvester and good value Weatherspoons.
In the US Denny's, Waffle House or Sizzlers for breakfast. We love Red Lobster, TGI Friday’s but such is my habit we self cater most of the time. We definitely avoid the all you can eat buffets, they're like food troughs...uuuurgggghhh!
I spend as much time as I can in the country, not nearly as much as I'd like but I plan to be as far away from London as I can get in the next few years. It's becoming a very dangerous city.

Heroes
My parents. My late Dad worked so hard to tread water financially doing what he loved, working with wood. As a cabinet maker & French Polisher such a specialist occupation often led to a cashflow drought. Mum always supported him and even when they barely met the mortgage, she would always have a hot meal on the table and endless cups of tea. Now that's love.
Sadly, Dad couldn't enjoy the retirement he deserved and passed away after a relatively short illness in 2001.
Miss you mate, God bless.
About me:
Be sure your sin will find you out & be careful what you wish for.
What?
Back in the day my colleagues and I strung aerials from trees on hills and risked liberty and limb to bring our favourite rock music to the eager ears of our London listener ship, dreaming for a time when legislation would reward us with a licence.
When the dream was over, all of us went our different ways.
Eighteen years later, while taped programmes from those halcyon days exchanged hands on ebay, Steve Price called and offered me a Saturday afternoon Classic Rock Show on a brand new satellite/internet radio station called ARfm. The 'apprenticeships' we served together back in the 80's suddenly became qualifications, even though it took the best part of twenty years.
Now I understand.
The fact that ARfm is not corporate owned sold the idea to me instantly. No regimented playlist to make you feel you’re stuck in ‘groundhog day’ and the freedom for the presenters to play - within reason - what they and their listeners bloody well like, as was our mission statement two decades ago. Listeners to my programme will hear Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and Lynyrd Skynyrd but not always the overly played standards like Stairway To Heaven, Paranoid, Money, Smoke On The Water or Freebird. We have a more than a little choice from the archives. Plus, with independent labels reissuing classic rock material, some of it didn't even get to vinyl initially, a whole new audience is getting to hear recordings prised out of major label vaults. Some of it has been locked away for over forty years. Not to mention all the current independent labels riding a tsunami of great new melodic rock turned over by the major labels and corporate stations, all can be assured of ARfm airplay.
Then there's Songs From The South, the sandwich filler, the second and middle hour devoted to the blend of rock, country and blues known simply as Southern. Here you'll find the delights of The Allman Brothers, The Outlaws, Z Z Top, the aforementioned Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Charlie Daniels Band, Van Zant, .38 Special, Molly Hatchet & Blackfoot, plus those bands not yet 'stadium fillers' like Sulentic Brothers, Tishamingo, Gator Country, Alligator Stew, Peppertown, Rebel Pride, Big Engine, Tribal Tongue, Southern Mercy, Blackberry Smoke, Chain Lightning, Southern Crush, One 90 Grain, Those Guys, Ghost In The Machine and the UK based acts like Melonheadman and Medicine Hat. Not to mention the great Indie stuff emerging with the sound of the swamps. We’ve got it covered especially the first Saturday of every month with The Redneck Review, three hours of the finest Southern Rock this side of the pond.
So now all you have to do is listen live, every Saturday 15:00hrs - 18:00hrs BST or GMT (late October to late March) or listen again 12:00 - 15:00hrs Wednesdays and 06:00 - 12:00hrs Fridays and judge for yourself on www.arfm.co.uk

The wonderful team at Stone Island Records have now listed our debut album 'LoveTel Motel' on their excellent website www. stoneislandrecords. com under the category heading of Classic Rock. You can now order your very own copy of this long awaited and much discussed LP recording by Magic Ship from Stone Island Records by clicking the image above. We hope that you enjoy listening to this album as much as we enjoyed making it. And don't forget that we mixed it so that you will be able to get the most out of it through either earphones or speakers, just so long as you remember to play it loud! Dancing is unavoidable. Grab a copy before it's too late.
Paul, I just got finished listening to the interview that was aired on your show with us from when you and April came to the "States". I listened to it from our website www. bigengine. com (shameless promotion LOL) We appreciate you giving us permission to put it up on our site. Thanks! I don't believe I can thank you enough taking the time to talk with us and ask the band some great questions. I really dig the way you presented it as well! Aside from being a really good dude; I think you are total pro man! I think you do Rock N Roll proud. I hope to be hanging with you on your own turf someday. ROCK ON!!!
I've got two gigs coming up beginning of June, would be great to see there. The venues are absolutely fantastic and there's gonna be some cool music... bring your friends with and enjoy a wonderful evening :)
