InfluencesYou gotta be kidding me! Is there room to list my influences ..... You know I love so many of the great blues and soul performers and then we get into other musical genres. I'll get back here again with a list some time but anyone whoever played it from their heart and soul is good by me! As promised here is a list of inspiration: Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Paul Rodgers, Joe Cocker, Frankie Miller,I think there is a pattern here!
Sounds LikeWhat do we sound like ? - great I hope! But hey, we just play great music, be it some Blues, some Soul, Rock, Jazz, Pop and some more that hopefully leaves our audience happy at the end of a concert. And here's a list of some of our clients ...

   About Paul Cox
CONTACTS: For live concert bookings please contact: pacoxy@gmail.com blake@note-music.co.uk Born in Wolverhampton (August 1959), Paul sang with several Midlands rock bands in the late 70's, before moving to London to audition for acappella band "Darts" in 1980. He made the last two, and though not getting the gig, he realised his future as a singer lay in the south.

1980 – 82 Paul joined the band "Giants" which began a long relationship with guitarist/songwriter Gordon Reaney. Then came a record deal with Magnet Records. The 1982 version of "All People Go Mad" (still in his set), was produced by Dale Griffin of Mott the Hoople, who is now a producer for BBC Radio

1982 – 84 Session work and occasional gigs were the order of the day before forming "Word of Mouth". A number of demos were recorded with "Word of Mouth", they also recorded a live session for televisions "Rock on the Dock" series, which was we received very well.

1985 – 87 Paul became part of 8-piece soul outfit led by Tim Hinckley called "Heart and Soul". Highlights of this period were an appearance at the Capital Music Festival and opening for Ray Charles at the Royal Festival Hall. Paul then joined forces with Brendan Hoban in the "Messengers" which for six months were the most exciting live Blues and Soul band on the scene. He also worked with Snowy White and Kuma Harada during this period. Paul was briefly with Renegade Management who also handled Paul Young.

1990 - 92 Then Paul was asked to join the "John Slaughter Blues Band" for a gig at the WOMAD rhythm and blues festival and has been working with John ever since. Having built up a reputation in Germany and Holland, the band have also appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival alongside Eric Clapton, and opened for Ray Charles in Germany in July 92.

1992 Still hankering to sing more blues & soul, Paul formed his own band Paul Cox's Soul Intention, which has become a favourite on the English club and society circuit and features some of Britain's top session musicians. He also found time to recorded the CD "A new coat of Paint" with the John Slaughter Band for Timeless Records

1995 As well as constant touring in Europe, Paul was involved a special benefit concert for the legendary Frankie Miller where he performed on stage with Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company) and Gary Brooker (Procul Harum).

1996 – 97 Paul did several European Festivals. In the Spring of '97 he was invited by Brendan Hoban to play in Bahrain at the islands premier night club, Barnaby Joe's, where they performed to full houses for 23 dates in May.

1998 Again saw Paul opening for Ray Charles in Europe. Recording with DOCTOR WU in Italy also recording a second CD "All that stuff ain’t real" with the John Slaughter Band which received rave reviews

1998 –99 Paul released a new solo CD "Ain’t Nothin’ Doin’" to critical acclaim and a lot of airplay. The CD features some of the UK’s finest musicians. There are a number of stand out tracks, give it a listen. The Paul Cox Band is working all over Europe to rave reviews, Paul Jones - Radio 2 /Jazz FM says "one of the best soul/blues voices in the UK"

2000- 2001 Played to critical acclaim at Litlecoate House, The Farnham Maltings Festival, Claire Festival and BB's Blues Festivals. Released second CD on Note "Real World" produced by Roger Cotton the follow up to his very successful first CD on Note Records. Featured in a "Paul Cox -Special" on Paul Jones’s JazzFM London show, JAZZ me BLUES! Who says of Paul "one of the best voices in Europe" and "one of my favourite artists". Performed a storming set to a large crowed, closing the "Blues on the Farm" event at Chichester.

2002 Paul and the band again played at Blues on the farm at Chichester, Paul putting out a standout performance, which received high praise in "Blues Matters", other notable performances included The Warrington Blues Club and The Waterfront Club. He also papered on BBC Radio, saw the New Year in at Jagz at Ascot to great acclaim.

He also has been working with Fire & Water the power rock band and Soul Survivor. Paul also appered on the Bill at the Andy Brown benefit concert at The Manor and is featured on the double live CD, which was recorded on the night "BROWN SOURCE" - In Loving Memory of Andy Brown.

Paul continues to gig with his own band THE PAUL COX BAND and is also in demand for session work adding authority to the vocals on some of the biggest hits and is feature with both Soul Intention and The Hi Fi Combo.

2003 Paul and his full Band headlined at the Warrington Blues Festival also on the bill was Connie Lush, Marcus Malone. Nicky Moore. Paul performed duets with both Nicky and Marcus to the delight of good size appreciative crowed, at the end of the show he was called back for two encores. Three of his performances were included on the Live! CD of the Festival, well worth a listen a sound investment.

Paul continued to be busy working with the led Zeppelin, Free & Bad Co. tribute band Fire & Water they did over 50 gigs. They were also in the studio and recorded a special Promo 6 track CD “Live in Studio”.

Further session work included music for a new Rock Opera and some tunes for a movie Soundtrack.

In the Summer Paul was in Italy gigging and headlined at the Valdagno Music Mini Blues Fest with a Anglo Italian band which went down a storm on a hot summer night at the foot of the Dolomite mountains.

At the yearend Paul was back in Italy touring Northern Italy with the Italian Band Doctor Wu with whom he has worked before and featured on one of their CDs.

2004 Was a very busy year with Paul working with is own Band plus Fire & Water. Paul also was singing with his band Soul Intention and with Soul Survivor two of the UK's top Soul Bands who play at a lot of corporate and private functions all over Europe.

Paul was again in demand for studio session work, He has also collaborating with two of the boys in the band Steve Dixon and Mike Summerland writing new original tunes for his new CD.

2005 In January Paul and the band were in the Studio recording his new CD 'Good To Me” produced by Roger Cotton and recorded at Roundel Studio.
