This piano trio is just as comfortable playing original compositions as it is standards. The combined influence of Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Thelonious Monk and many other jazz heroes can be detected in the trio’s playing alongside the work of more contemporary performers and composers. Led by pianist Paul Edis [whose credits include playing at the 100 Club in London, gigs with Mark Nightingale, Steve Waterman, Alan Barnes and Vasilis Xenopoulos, as well as regular work with the Voice of the North], with bassist Mick Shoulder [of gypsy-jazz outfit Djangology] and drummer Adam Sinclair [whose credits include working with Nitin Sawhney], the trio performs regularly at some of the most prestigious venues in the area, including the Queens Hall, The Cluny, The Corner House, Opus 4 Jazz Club, at festivals including Gateshead International Jazz Festival, Durham Brass Festival and Stockton Riverside Festival. The trio regularly works with guest soloists. A recent highlight was a gig with 'world class saxophonist' Julian Siegel, whilst the trio can often be seen working with the best front line players in the region, appearing regularly as the Paul Edis Sextet - with Noel Dennis [trumpet] Graeme Wilson [sax] and Chris Hibbard [trombone].
