Paul Elsey.A 41 year old singer/songwriter from Medway in Kent with a passion for many styles/genres of music.The influences to name but a few.Always had a guitar around as far back as I can remember and apparently wanted one from the age of 3 when I first saw Julie Andrews strumming away on a hilltop in Switzerland in The Sound Of Music(not something I usually shout from the hilltops).From there,my impatience for wanting to be the next Hendrix or Clapton in a few days,did'nt get me very far but I kept plodding along hiding away so nobody could hear the unrecognisable din.By the age of 40,there I was doing the same thing when I finally found the "confidence" to play in front of people with the encouragement of a group of friends.First at a friends party,with a few others,with me hiding behind a speaker so I would'nt be noticed.Then one of my "encouager's",the singer/songwriter and original artist of "Blossom",Gavin Alexander "suggested" the next step for me was an open mic night(seemed a good idea at the time).So there I was in a pub full of strangers struggling to finger a chord and warbling through Dr.Hooks "Sylvia's Mother" looking down thinking "what's this piece of wood,in front of me with 6 strings".Anyone know the feeling?.Well that was that,or rather it was'nt because I kept going back and the hands don't tremble "as much" now.So here I am now,after recording a few songs in the front room,saying to myself ,"If you want your dream,you have to face your fears to reach your goal and even though you may never reach that goal just make sure of one thing,"that you enjoy the journey".
One day we’re gonna stand before God and he is going to ask two questions. The first question is, "What did you do with my Son Jesus Christ?" Not "What religion were you?" Not what denomination, not what background, where did you go to church. We were created for a relationship, not a religion--not rituals, not rules, not regulations. Then the second question is, "What did you do with what you were given?"
