My name is Paul Fox but I also have releases under the 'band' name, 'Shades of Black'. 'Shades of Black' consists of whoever is involved musically with a particular release but the permanent members are myself and Jonah Dan. Originally Shades of Black consisted of Julian Ryan, Jonah Dan and myself. Julian, a very talented music maker, went his own way a few years ago but it was Julian that introduced me to Jonah. My first release was in 1992 with a 12" called 'Writing on the Wall/ African Mask' on the Sound Business label. This was recorded at the Manasseh studio and became popular at dub sessions in the UK. This was followed up with another 12" called 'Serious Time/ Unity' on the Word, Sound and Power label. 'Ease up the Pressure' was my first album also on the Word, Sound and Power label. Since then I have worked with various producers and labels as well as other artists and my other releases have included 'Positive Thinking' (album), 'Jah Bless Mandela' (7"), 'War and Peace' (12"). Under Shades of Black, Jonah Dan and myself have released 'Shades of Dub' (album), 'Friend or Enemy/ Fight for the Right' (12"), 'Sounds of Time' (album), 'This is not the end/ Light Years with Jimmy Ranks' (12"), 'Hard Times/ Over I' (12") and 'Ceasefire (Mykal Roze)/ Poverty' (10"). In 2008 Shades of Black released 'Babylon Kingdomn Fall (Michael Rose)/ Down inna Rome' (12"). Also that year we had two CD's released - 'Great Expectations' and 'Dub Expectations' featuring Michael Rose. I have recorded some tracks with Alpha and Omega and I am currently touring with them throughout Europe. I am working on various projects at the moment and hope to have some new releases soon.
