PAUL GONZALES' music career began when he became the trumpet soloist with the Army Showband of New England, in 1985. After moving back to Albuquerque, he was one of the founding members of Salsa Suite, and played with Salsa Maria and Caribe. In 1991, Paul & Steve Figueroa formed the Jazz/Afro-Cuban group, Tetragon. In 1994, Paul joined Cesar Bauvallet's Cuban-styled Salsa band, Son Como Son. He played with Ottmar Liebert's group during 2000, playing Jazz festivals from Seattle to the West Indies. In 2003, Paul Gonzales recorded his first album, "Warm Valley". Paul has also recorded 2 CDs with Son Como Son, "Aqui no falta mas nadie" and "Corazon" (which was in Latin Beat Magazine's top 10 recordings of 2004). He also appears on Ottmar Liebert's platinum selling recording, "Little Wing", and Frank Leto's new CD, "Celebrations". Currently, Paul performs with Tetragon, Son Como Son, Tradiciones, Calle 66, Pandemonium, and Sparx. He is a Jazz D.J. on KUNM-FM and teaches Trumpet lessons & Jazz Improvisation. Paul is now the adjunct trumpet teacher at Northern New Mexico College and has just joined the jazz education staff at the Outpost Performance Space. "...We spend our time thinking about what other people are thinking about us...When all they're really thinking about is, what we're thinking about them."
~ Ellen Degeneres
"...What other people think about you is none your business!"
"Before success comes in any man's life, he is sure to be met with much temporary defeat, perhaps some failure. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and the most logical thing to do is to quit. Failure is a trickster with a keen sense of irony and cunning. It takes great delight in tripping one when success is almost within reach." - Napoleon Hill
"Failure is the condiment that gives success its flavor." - Truman Capote
hey Paul, I am playing alot but with other musicians who have no dealings with the college. I am sort of having difficulties getting anything constructive in the college, as if completely isolated from the rest of the program there, I am learning more if I go to Kanoa and Dave Parlato. it is a possibility I will just go to the outpost for now and perhaps later continue my degree at UNM in ALBQ.... I enjoyed playing with you and Phil last semester, you guys are the real deal....!!!!
