   About PAUL GURVITZ

Skype Me--!
PAUL GURVITZ started his career in the mid 60's playing in the famous Star Club in Hamburg with his band The Londoners , on returning to London he changed the name of the band to The Knack and released a string of singles on several different labels, in 1967 he once again changed the name of his band this time to The Gun , The Gun released 2 albums and in late 68 had a hit with a song he wrote which became a rock classic titled Race With The Devil which was later covered by Girlschool,Judas Priest, Black Oak Arkansas and performed by Jimi Hendrix. in 71 Paul formed Parrish & Gurvitz which was produced by Beatles producer George Martin and released 2 more albums . Next came Three Man Army a hard rock trio they toured the U.S with The Doobie Brothers & The Beach Boys and released 3 albums , during that time he formed a studio band with the the drummer of the Moody Blues The Graeme Edge Band . After the sad demise of Three Man Army, Paul joined forces with the legendary drummer Ginger Baker (Cream) and formed The Baker Gurvitz Army . The Baker Gurvitz Army released 3 studio albums and 3 live albums and are about to release their latest double cd titled Still Alive which includes a live dvd , for more info and to purchase some of these classic gems go to paulgurvitz.com. Paul Gurvitz later signed to Chrysalis music and traveled to the US to pursue a career as a songwriter.

It didn't take long to succeed with a hit: ironically it was with a British band. The family quintet Five Star, who had their first big hit in the UK with "All Fall Down", followed by the top ten hits "Let Me Be The One" and "Find The Time". The latter was written by Paul, he also wrote another top 20 UK hit , R.S.V.P. from the album Luxury Of Life and Are You Man Enough from the quadruple platinum album SILK & STEEL all chart topping singles for the band.

After his success with Five Star, Paul went on to work with a string of successful pop and R&B acts such as Kim Wilde who had a top 20 hit with Dancing In The Dark ,Jody Watley a double platinum, for Jellybean he wrote Who Found Who which was a 1 billboard dance hit and 16 pop hit, The Cover Girls, Show Me album was double platinum, for Melba Moore he wrote and produced a 5 billboard R&B hit Love The One, for Stacy Lattisaw he wrote a 12 billboard R&B hit Jump Into My Life ,he wrote 2 songs for Jermaine Stewart's Say It Again album, and for Jermaine Jackson he wrote Clean Up Your Act for the movie I'm Gonna Git You Sucka , for Imagination he wrote and produced yet another 1 billboard dance hit Instinctual, Stanley Clark, Pepsi & Shirley were amongs some of the many, he also produced The Fat boys for their movie Dissorderlies and also produced a remix of their 1 hit Wipeout featuring the Beach Boys. "It certainly wasn't a deliberate decision for me to stop playing on albums and move to writing and producing for other people instead." "Over the years I never stopped playing and writing for myself. Eventually I felt the time had come for me to write an album of my own".

In 2002, Paul opened up a new chapter in his versatile career as a solo artist. His debut album, which had been written over the years was entitled "No Gun No Army", a tongue in cheek reference to his past. Gurvitz had written, produced and performed everything on the album.

2004, Paul completed his second solo album entitled "Rated PG". The title is a play on the artist's initials.

The ten new songs on "Rated PG" show a quieter and more introspective side to the artist than those found on his previous release. These new tracks are wonderfully composed song writing gems that could only ever emerge from the heart of someone who has been as carefully committed to his craft over the years as Paul Gurvitz. This album is full of great melodies, beautiful string sections and warm acoustic guitar parts with a subtle world music flavor. The songs deal with love and human relationships and they portray a man who has grown along with his work, for which he still has a strong passion.

Those who are not familiar with his solo work or only know him through his collaborations with others might not know what to expect stylistically from this album. Paul has always had a strong connection to rhythm and blues and "Rated PG" shows that it still forms an important part of his musical expression. Paul is currently working on his third solo album
