My grandson Lawrence Madariaga, to whom the Pechanga Tribe owes a debt of gratitude:

Madariaga's 89-year-old grandfather, Lawrence, has prostate cancer. After his health insurance was cut off, he didn't take his medications for a few months, Madariaga says. Now, he's dipping into his retirement to pay for them. Madariaga describes his grandfather as an integral member of the tribe who helped upgrade the water system and bring electricity and phones to tribe members. "He designed and helped build the health clinic, " he says of his grandfather.

He was born 18 years after Paulina Hunter died in 1899, when Antonio Ashman was 40 years old...Antonio Ashman knew Lawrence as a child.....as Pechanga.
There were no movies in my time. But a movie about what the Pechanga Tribal Council has done to their people could be titled: The Original Pechanga Temecula Massacre II BOYCOTT PECHANGA

The Pechanga Disenrollment Committee purposely denied their own PAID expert's work. Other families used Dr. Johnson and the enrollment committee used his findings. Sound strangely like a conspiracy?
The PECHANGA Tribe of Temecula HAS DISGRACED their ancestors' memories by the disenrollment of my family and the family of a chief of Pechanga, Pablo Apis, because of greed. They claim to respect their elders, yet they have sent 50 elders away from the tribe. They forced them to live without the health care they depend on and deserve as blood members of the tribe. They have taken away educational opportunities for the children of over 230 adult members. And they have turned away from their tribal history. What's left is a weaker tribe, a tribelet, if you will, with many who are afraid to stand up for decency, honor and truth and those who think a golden goose will last forever, no matter how badly they treat it. BOYCOTT Pechanga!
Paulina Hunter was alive during the Temecula Massacre of 1846. The current Pechanga Tribal Council has destroyed ..more Indians.. than were destroyed in 1846. Pablo Apis took those who were killed and respectfully interred them on his land where Pechanga Casino now sits. Yet, now, the Tribal Council claims he is not Pechanga.
The Pechanga Tribal Council has NO credibility, as they proclaim they are working for the good of the tribe, when, if fact, they have ..decimated the membership... They allow adopted people to stay, but not descendants of Original Pechanga Temecula Persons.

Yet Pechanga took the word of a child molester, Vincent Ibanez, in a letter from his prison cell Vincent Ibanez’Megan’s Law Page who was NOT alive when Paulina Hunter was, over the educator, Dr. John Johnson of UCSB, who has studied California Tribes for over 20 years, including work with Los Padrones, and is a specialist in ethnohistory.
NOBODY is more qualified than Dr. Johnson and certainly Ibanez is not his equal.

Pechanga says that it's NOT about the money, but hey, each member was getting$220,000 before they disenrolled the Manuela Miranda family and $268,000 BEFORE they disenrolled the Hunter family. They are now making over $300,000 You think it WASN'T about the money? What do you think it could be? They were happy to have the families in the tribe when they were getting government handouts based on tribal size. Will they pay back the Government for the money they received? Will Pechanga admit they did not follow their own tribal law?
They have adopted people in the Tribe, some who tried to SPLIT the tribe and who STOLE money from the Pechanga Tribe, as reported in newsletters of 1981. Why would they disenroll true Pechanga blood if it was NOT about the MONEY? Oh, it's about the POWER, not the money?
Paulina Hunter's grandparents were Pechanga of Temecula.
Paulina died February 21, 1899, years after being alotted land on the Pechanga Reservation. Her allotment is Number 62, while no Masiel or Basquez issue can truthfully claim an ancestor with an alotment. They support someone who has NO PECHANGA BLOOD and they have a brother who is SOBOBA,

BOYCOTT PECHANGA CASINO,UNTIL THEY TREAT THEIR MEMBERS HONORABLY and Re-Enroll rightful members and allow open enrollments to continue as required by LAW..
Who I'd like to meet:
1. An honest Pechanga Tribal Council Member, a rare breed. Masiel? No. Murphy? No. Macarro? No
2. R "B" Murphy, so that I may ask him how he feels to have destroyed a tribe with his underhanded ways.
3. The Tribal Chairman, Macarro, so that I may ask him if he is honoring the tribe and his father, Leslie and Grandfather, Henry by disenrolling Tribal Members including those that were related to him. I'd bet they'd say NO. Pechanga has less respect for elders, simply because there are FEWER Elders now that they have disenrolled 50 of them, denying them the needed health care that is their right.
