You know, I was watching the most interesting show on the discovery channel, and they were interviewing a man who made his living designing rides. Attractions, for an amusment park. And he said when you just stop, and imagine your ideal attraction, there are three main elements.
He said first; when you take this ride, you should enter a state of high anticipation. And you know that moment when you're sitting in that rollercoaster car? And you're starting that first, long, slow, vertical climb, and you can feel your heart pounding with excitement? You should feel the adrenaline surging through your every muscle. And then just after you reach that peak, you're screaming all the way down.
He said the second element is that there has got to be a sense of overall safety. You know this attraction, this ride, is so well designed, that you won't get hurt. And because you feel so safe, you feel completely free to indulge in every one of those exciting feelings.
And he said finally, and this was the most interesting thing for me, he said there has got to be a strong element of fascination. This ride has to have so many different twists and turns, that as soon as you get off...
You want to climb right back on.
