PAUL JAMES BERRY (UK)
Maybe you have heard of the English singer/songwriter Paul James Berry and then again maybe you haven't....
Well, his musical history is rich and complicated; from the back street of Leeds/England in the late 80s were he formed the successful Goth-Rock band The Rose of Avalanche and was championed by legendary DJ John Peel. To the roaming solo days and the release of 3 solo albums all praised by fans and critics alike. Not always the easiest of CDs to listen to, but rich in depth and sincerity, equal to the greatest artists of our times....
All through PJB’s career, he has held true to the fundamental building blocks of songwriting and live performance - an acoustic guitar and his voice. Supporting giants of the songwriting genre such as Nico, Vic Chestnutt, Howie Gelb, Franck Black and even David Bowie and many many more.
So, that’s a tiny tiny snippet into the world of PJB, but that’s the past what about now?
Early 2009 Paul James Berry was involved in a very serious road side accident in his now home town of Brighton/England. The results of the accident was that a 32 lorry crushed both of Paul’s legs.... After spending a long time in an Intensive Care Unit, fighting for his life and fighting doctors from taking both legs off...he finally stabilized and was discharged from hospital -with both legs - but forced to use a wheelchair...
At the moment PJB’s rehabilitation has sprang dramatically forwards to the point that he rarely uses the wheelchair and now gets about relatively OK with a stick....
Now I’m sure you will agree this is all sad and tragic, but what has it got to do with Paul James Berry’s music? Well, PJB wants to perform again with a string of solo acoustic concerts - basically to celebrate the fact that he is alive.....
