Sounds Like
I was at a Paul Kurrey band show to write a review on the latest music buzz. After 2 songs people in the crowd started yelling " your the boss" Kurrey stepped up to the mike and replied, "sorry that name is taken" The wit of John Lennon came to mind and mixed with the edgy lyrics and sweet sounds I was surrounded by...NOT TO BE MISSED! review by Bill Spectrum

Paul is a performer that is heading for legend as one reviewer wrote. He writes from the gut with lots of heart thrown in the review concluded. My mother was a music teacher and I started playing piano at 4 years old. I gave my first show at 6 at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. I tried violin and cello and eventually started playing Guitar at age 11. I was hooked. I was in an early cover band with childhood friend Eric Bazilian and was told I would be the bass player. The band was called the Limestones. We did one gig on a children's TV show. At 14 I ran away from home and went to NYC. Played in coffee houses in the Village even being under age. A major influence and friend was the Late Phil Ochs. After returning to Philly I picked up the Bass again and played in a Southern Rock style blues band whose name escapes me although we sold out the Starlight Ballroom on many occasions. In the mid seventies I moved to Cleveland Ohio and got into the rock scene there Playing clubs like the Pirates Cove, Euclid Tavern and the Agora. Returning to Philadelphia, I played bass with the Late Great Jamison Smoothdog, the uncredited writer of the Marshall Tucker hit Can't You See. I have been writing songs and music for years, but for some reason I stayed on bass and backed up other writers. The famous JC DOBBS (now re-opened) In Philly was a constant hangout in the Philly music scene and I performed there with Smoothdog many times as well as Ripleys, Bachanal, the East Side Club and so many more. We were featured on a Comcast hour long show called Out On The
Town. I am proud to be the first artist signed to the newest and Hottest Indie record label Double K Records a division of Soul Asylum poetry and Publishing. A new CD that will show offthe Singer-Songwriter solo acoustic material that electrifies the current tour is about to be released. Paul is from Philadelphia and NYC has been a second home on more that one occasion. He has gone back to his singer-songwriter, coffee house roots and is currently writing and performing solo in the Washington D.C. area having just returned from 6 months in the Appalachia Mountains. If you can catch a solo show do so as there is an electric Paul waiting to plug back in! His lyrics and sound comes from experience. "Gritty lyrics" as one DJ loving his music, said after playing DANCING WITH THE RAIN. From his runaway kid days and living on the streets at age 14, through many notable life events to follow, his music has been there, along with a heavy pen. "I have lived in penthouse apartments and been tossed aside when I no longer had a dime. Slept in a subway train and breathed the Jamaican air. I write from the gut with a lot of heart one person wrote, and I guess that's a pretty good way to put it. I was told to make a movie about my life ...what would I call it True Grit? Nah John Wayne already did that one. I tell the stories through my song and art, in an entertaining way.Listen, Feel and Love!

Hi Paul thank you for your comment posted to my status today about my new grandbaby. It was wonderful to hold her today on the day of her birth. She will be going home tomorrow to meet her big brother and big sister, my other two grandchildren, who are so excited about having a new baby sister that will be home soon to be with them.
hey Paul -- Great to see you last night at COQUETTE BISTRO -- nice surprise that you 3 were back in town!
I hope I'll see you all again tonight over at BLUE BANANAS CAFE at 223 South Street.
Its a shame you aren't living here as I get all of this music stuff up & running. But you have family & a life now in DC, which is certainly important.
